San Diego police are looking to identify the man who they say stole more than a dozen phones from unsuspecting shoppers at several local Trader Joe’s locations, all in the same day. FOX 5/KUSI reporter Kasia Gregorczyk was a victim in one of these thefts. “Within a span of three hours traveling south to different Trader Joe’s locations, 13 cell phones were stolen,” said Cpt. Tammy Clendenen with San Diego Police Eastern Division. Police believe the suspect started in Riverside County on Oct. 17 and then moved quickly through at least eight stores in the city of San Diego. The City of San Diego began clearing out encampments Tuesday under the I-5 freeway near Friars Road along the San Diego River. “I mean there were dozens of people living on and around this island, and they’ve been here for a significant amount of time accumulating items that they’ve had in their encampments,” said Franklin Coopersmith, Deputy Director of the City's Environmental Services Department. The father of a Point Loma teen is mourning the unexpected loss of his daughter. A high-speed pursuit with police ended tragically when the suspect lost control of her vehicle and slammed into a cement pillar north of Pyramid Lake on Wednesday. The Los Angeles Police Department started the chase at about 2 p.m. near Santa Clarita before the California Highway Patrol took over the pursuit near the Newhall Pass. A group of fishermen were in for a huge surprise while out at sea Monday. The anglers caught a 492-pound swordfish off the coast of San Diego on their boat “Tuna Twins.” The swordfish was so big that they couldn’t get it onto the boat without calling for backup. All five people on a small plane that went down on Catalina Island Tuesday night were killed in the crash, officials confirmed Wednesday. The Avalon Sheriff Station received an S.O.S. emergency notification from a cellphone that had been involved in a collision with possible injuries shortly after 8 p.m., the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department stated.
