dumplings with ice flower skirt gotta practice dumpling skills before chinese new year for the blessed luck 🥟🧧🐉 but forgive my bad dumpling folding im not northern chinese lol Look at “Magic Ingredients - pan fried dumplings with skirt” for super good tutorial to make these A quick summary tho: - to make filling - season meat with salt, soy sauce, white pepper, five spice powder, sichuan peppercorn powder, mix the meat with chinese cooking wine, water, a lil flour and an egg. - Add in minced green onion, pour hot oil on top - mix in some purged cabbage - to make dumpling wrapper - make dough with 140ml water, 250g ap flour, salt, ratio will depend on how thirsty your flour is - knead, let rest, until smooth - wrap dumpling with fillings in the shape your heart desires - oil in hot pan, place dumplings in - after a bit, pour in slurry mixture and cover let steam on medium low heat - Slurry: 1 tbps flour, 1/2 tbsp starch, 1/2 tsp baking powder - when dumplings are translucent, open lid and fry the slurry at medium high heat until desired crispiness - put plate on pan, flipp - serve w any sauce you desire (but if it doesnt have chinese black vinegar smh) - My fav is soy sauce, vinegar, sugar, chili oil and a lil sesame oil - enjoy :) happy lunar new year everyone!! 🥳 #uwansum #chinesenewyear #easyrecipes #asianfood #asmrfood

One of my favorite easy breakfasts If you want to eat more protein in the morning but are tired of the same repetitive egg recipes, try these Chinese silken eggs. They’re easy to prepare, melt in your mouth, and are the quickest savory breakfasts! Recipe: - Beat 2 eggs in a bowl - Mix in 3/4 cup water and a pinch of salt (you can use chicken broth instead of water if you want more flavor) - Pour the egg mixture through a strainer and into a bowl. Remove any air bubbles with a spoon. - Cover bowl with saran wrap and steam for 12 min - After 12 min, remove from steamer and top with 2 tsp soy sauce, 1 tsp sesame oil, and green onions. - Optional: Make cuts in steamed eggs to let the sauce seep through! #easybreakfast #easymeal #asianfood #eggs #chinesesteamedeggs

What I ate for lunch and why As someone who was born and raised in Hawaii, spam was an essential component of many meals growing up. When I moved to the mainland, I was told to avoid spam due to its high sodium and saturated fat content. Though I understood the importance of limiting this for health reasons, this wasn’t realistic advice for someone whose favorites foods (e.g. spam musubi, fried rice) included spam. As always, I found the idea of “adding” instead of “subtracting” much more helpful (and culturally sensitive)! Instead of completely avoiding spam, I may add more nutrients to my meal to make it higher in fiber, nutrients, and protein. This is one of many examples of how AANHPI individuals have diverse cultural backgrounds, beliefs, and practices that significantly influence their health and healthcare decisions. By having AANHPI representation among healthcare professionals (including dietitians), we can better bridge the cultural gap and provide appropriate nutrition and diet advice that respects and aligns with the unique needs and preferences of these communities. This includes understanding dietary preferences and cultural nuances that may affect our eating habits and, therefore, our health! Obviously, I’m not advocating for people to eat spam every day, but this would be one example of how much more helpful it can be to focus on what to add to, not what to subtract from, your meals. #asianfood #spam #dietitian #whatieatinaday #wieiad #nutrition
