This month marks Endometriosis Awareness Month. Endometriosis is among the 20 most painful medical conditions. After enduring over a decade of misdiagnoses and feeling unheard, I finally received confirmation of my condition. While the news was difficult to accept, it brought a sense of closure, validating the reality of my excruciating pain, mental struggles, and so much more. I've kept silent about the challenges of living with endometriosis. I find myself hospitalized 3-7 times a month, enduring pain for more than half of each day. The constant vomiting has caused a significant weight loss, down to 127 pounds, leaving me feeling weaker than ever. Dark circles and eye bags,hair loss and dental issues from frequent vomiting (2+ a day) making it hard to love my appearance. Depression comes in waves due to the relentless cycle of pain and hospital visits, leaving me feeling helpless and drained. It's taken a toll on my mental well-being and overall joy in life. The nightly screams of agony and frequent ER visits are a harsh reality. I rely on 8 different medications to manage the pain, nausea, and discomfort, yet there's still no relief in sight. My distended/protruded stomach mirrors pregnancy and is a harsh reminder that carrying a child may never be possible with this diagnosis. Sadly, there's no cure in sight. I feel lazy, weak, and mostly guilty. I'm haunted by the sense that I'm not living up to my potential and burdened by the constant care and support my wife tirelessly provides to keep my spirits up. Guilt consumes me as I compare my struggles to those facing even greater challenges, leaving me feeling remorseful for my own suffering, even sometimes invalidating my own pain. But even through the struggles of endometrial I am grateful. Even on my worse days. I also know I’m not alone and so many struggle w the same and/or other chronic diseases. This month is to recognize Endometriosis and maybe give a little more support to yourself or anyone you may know going through the many struggles endometriosis causes physically and mentally.
