Zip it! Keep your mouth shut. There are times when feedback in the form of support and encouragement can be useful, and there are times when it works against the person trying to make change. The main idea here is, if it’s not about YOU, don’t make it about you. Change is hard enough without piling on the expectations of others. That said, accountability partners CAN, at times, be very helpful. If we have disappointed ourselves in the past, and don’t feel confident in our own capacity to succeed, sometimes adding someone else’s hopes and excitement to the mix can be encouraging. So, to sum up, choose an accountability partner if you feel it will benefit you, and don’t act as one if you haven’t been selected.
