Your resume *must* match the words in the job description, otherwise it's a waste of time applying at all! Most job seekers hate Applicant Tracking Systems (ATS), but once you know how to use them to your advantage, you'll start getting interviews. Leverage the way ATS work by speaking their language. They'll recommend your resume to be viewed by a real human *if* you do a good job wording your resume to match the job description. Stop wasting your time firing off the same resume to every job posting. It doesn't work! Start tailoring your resume for each job. It's less work in the long run because it actually gets results. #jobapplications #careertips #jobhop #jobhunt #resume #resumetips #resumehacks #jobposting #breakintotech #careeradvice #careercoach

Scammy bait and switch tactic: Some job postings and recruiters will tell you a position is hybrid and then once you land the job they reveal that it's "up to" 1 remote day per week, and sometimes you don't even get to choose which day. They lied to you on purpose to fill the position. So take the job, but keep applying until a *real* hybrid or remote offer comes along. I get asked what to do in this scenario all the time so it seems to be pretty common. The offer was based on a lie they told - it's okay to take a few paychecks and then leave! #careeradvice #career #jobhop #remotejobs #hybrid #inoffice #officejobs #workremote #wfh

NEVER tell a recruiter your real current salary. The best case scenario is to avoid giving any number at all. You can do this by saying "What's the budget for the role?", and when they tell you, say "I'm comfortable in that range". If they keep pushing, you can also say "I'd like to learn more about the position before settling on a number". This basically means you're putting off discussing numbers until you're one of the top candidates. If they will not let you move forward without giving a number, you'll need to have done your research. Find the market rate for the job, then take the high end of that range, and add about $10k to it. That's the number you'll tell them. If its too high for them, you can again ask what their budget for the role is, and then tell them you're comfortable in that range because you really want this job and to work for this company. Otherwise you just put yourself in the running for more money than you ever thought you'd get. That's how I once got a $54k salary increase when I got a new job. I LIED TO THE RECRUITER. They have absolutely no business knowing what you're currently paid! They know their budget for the role and that's all that matters. I know it's scary but give it a shot. It works and is the best way to get a huge salary increase when changing jobs! #careeradvice #careertok #salarytransparency #salarynegotiation #script #howtonegotiate #raise #jobhop #careerchange #breakintotech

How to create a portfolio for free to get a data analytics job! You will need two portfolios: one for SQL, and one for Tableau. The SQL one will show off queries you've written and the Tableau one with showcase visualizations and dashboards you've created. (For instructions on how to learn those things, enroll in my free data analytics course!). The SQL portfolio will be on github and the Tableau portfolio will be on Tableau Public. Once you've created your portfolios, you should link them in your resume *and* add them to your LinkedIn profile. This shows recruiters that you have real experience even if you haven't been paid for it yet. That's how you get your first entry level data analyst job! My free data analytics course shows you how to learn SQL & Tableau and how to build your portfolios. This is what "fake it till you make it" means to me! You can't lie about your skills during a job interview, but you CAN fake how confident you are in your skills, and how confident you are that you're the perfect fit for the job. Ever notice how many people above you (like your boss) suck at their jobs and you wonder how they got there? They're probably raging narcissists. They're belligerently confident for no reason! The only way to compete with people like that is to fake your own confidence. If you're okay with learning a few new things at the new job, you're fully capable of doing the job. Even if you are 100% qualified for a job, there will always be additional skills to learn simply for the fact that it's a new job. You'll be working with new people, using new systems, learning internal tools, etc. You don't need to already know those things, you just need to believe that you'll *be able to* learn them. During job interviews, one of the worst things you can do is come off as insecure. Tell them you'll be able to hit the ground running! Because in reality, no new hire is ever expected to do that. Your first 2 weeks will be training, get-to-know-you meetings, and gaining access to everything. If you meet more than 60% of the job description "requirements", you're over qualified! Job descriptions are a wish list. They're not real requirements. If you meet more than 60% of the requirements, you should be applying to the next level higher of jobs. So if you were looking at data analyst jobs and you meet 60%+ of the requirements, start looking at senior analyst jobs! I have *never* in my career met 100% of the job requirements (or even come close) for any of the jobs I've gotten. Don't sell yourself short! You won't get the job if you dont apply. How to know what salary to ask for in job interviews! The secret is to ask about this during your very first interview. You will get a HUGE advantage by asking what the salary range is for the role, because it might just be higher than what you were looking for. The best way to phrase it is like this: what's the budget for the role? That way, you're not making it about you, you're making it about an objective fact: the amount of money HR decided they could spend on hiring this position. It's business, it's not personal! Once you get the salary range info during your first interview, you'll know exactly how much wiggle room there is to negotiate when you get your offer. You could miss out on tens of thousands PER YEAR for the rest of your life if you don't ask! #salarynegotiation #careeradvice #jobseeker #jobapplications #jobinterviews #interviewtips #interviewhacks #career #careercoach #moneymindset #budget #finance101 #jobhop

I see it every day... people who have taught themselves new career skills but don't feel confident so they don't apply. That's how you stay put in your current job, in the same situation, wanting to leave but never doing it. If you want the raise, the work from home job, and the empowerment... You NEED to fake having confidence in your skills until it becomes real! Explain the projects you've done to yourself in the mirror until they sound amazing. Confidently say yes when asked if you have experience. You learned the skills right? We live in an age where our jobs aren't guaranteed and no one is safe from layoffs. That means it makes ZERO sense to be loyal to your employer! When I say this is business, it's not personal - that's exactly what I mean. It doesn't matter if you love your boss or coworkers, they have nothing to do with the company's balance sheet or their decision on who to lay off and when. My first boss at Comcast had been there for over 20 years when they did layoffs in 2020. He got laid off and I didn't. The best thing you can do for yourself financially is to job hop every 1 to 3 years depending on the unique situation that comes with each job. By job hopping, you'll secure *millions* more dollars over your lifetime. And by having an up to date resume and LinkedIn at all times, you'll set yourself up to recover much faster if you *do* ever get laid off. Your company is using you to maximize profits. The fastest way to a pay increase is to get the same job at a different company. The slowest way is to be loyal. The most *strategic* way is to learn new skills before the job hop, that way you can take advantage of the salary increase that comes just from job hopping, AND the salary increase that comes from having in-demand skills, meaning you'll get a *much bigger* increase! You can learn anything online for free, the hard part is to decide to do it! What is job hopping? Job hopping just means applying for a new job even when you're already employed so that you can take advantage of inflation and increased salary offers. Usually, job hopping refers to getting the same (or very similar) job, just at a different company, so you can get a ~$10k to $20k+ salary increase. How to job hop: Job hopping is as simple as applying for the same job you already have but at different companies. Many companies dont give ANY raise every year, and the ones that do average around a 2% raise. So if you're making $50k, your 2% raise would bring you to $51k. By job hopping, you'd easily be able to get to $60k (which would take you 10 YEARS if you stayed at the same company and got a 2% raise every year!). Work is an exchange of your time for money, NOTHING MORE. Don't give your life away to a company that will lay you off the second they need to make cuts. it feels like a scam to suggest that anyone can find a career their passionate about. can we just be honest and all admit we don't wanna work and that we're doing it for the money? I truly don't care if that makes me look bad or lazy or whatever. EVERYONE should be getting as much money as possible for your time. If you want more, figure out a way to get more. There is always a way! is it easy? hell no! it's going to eat into your free time and that sucks. but making more money means you can retire sooner and your returns on your time are infinite. don't get caught in the trap of feeling like you have to give a single f about your job. just use it for money and enjoy your life. no shame to anyone who has found a way to truly make money off your passion, I'm happy for you! but it's not realistic for most people. i love snowboarding but I can't make money off that. what I CAN do is get a career that pays well so I can snowboard any weekend I want to. anyone else feel this way?? check out my FREE course in my profile or google Charlotte chaze free course. Working on location is so pre-covid... 😅 But really. There are SO MANY jobs that can be done remotely in 2023. You just have to go get one! It will change your life. I know it's easier said than done, but anyone can do this. Just get started learning skills that are in demand and then start applying. I promise you, you can do this. I've seen everyone from teachers to truck drivers make the switch to remote data analyst jobs! #remotejobs #workfromhome #careeradvice #career #jobhop #jobskills #skillshare #jobtok #worktok #paycheck #latestagecapitalism #work #upgrade #hustle #mindset #motivation
