Kinda Interesting Things #94: 6 ½ Avenue — The Pedestrian-Only Avenue in NYC If you’re strolling through Midtown Manhattan, between West 51st and 57th Streets, and between 6th and 7th Avenue, you’ll come across 6 ½ Avenue — the pedestrian-only avenue in NYC. For many years, the passageway between 51st and 57th Streets was an open secret amongst those who lived and worked in the area. It gave pedestrians the opportunity to travel through Midtown without having to go through 6th or 7th avenue. But oftentimes, there would be a safety risk, given they had to jaywalk through the streets and avoid car traffic. So in 2011, the Friends of Privately Owned Public Spaces or F-POPS got together to propose a walkway that would connect several open-access lobbies, arcades, and atriums across six blocks. The purpose was to ease foot traffic on the main avenues, while providing pedestrian safety like clear crosswalks, and the rare Manhattan stop signs. 100 Fun Things To Do In New York ⬇️ Part 20 Summer is here! ☀️ So if you love the beach, then why not go for a swim, get a tan, and then enjoy the view from above while ziplining 700ft down the beach! 😮 Only an hour away from the city and minutes away from a beach, not only do you have access to the zipline, but there’s also an adventure course and even a 40 ft jump! The zipline is 700 feet long and you’ll have access to the views of the beach coast. But if the zipline is not enough for you, don’t fret because they also offer 4 levels of adventure courses (including an Extreme Course) and even a 40 ft freefall jump for an extra adrenaline rush. In the adventure course, you’ll be securely tethered to a lifeline and go through obstacles ranging from stepping on planks to walking on a tightrope and even going on a wrecking ball all while being suspended above ground. It starts off easy but eventually gets harder and more challenging as you go through the course. It’s definitely fun and they offer 4 levels of difficulty. *The minimum height required for this is 4’8” or 142 cm with a minimum age of 5.  For the little ones ages 5 - 12, they have the Kids Adventure Course, with a minimum participant height of 3’9” or 114 cm. This one would take approximately an hour to complete. And last but not least is the Extreme Course, which could take up to 2 hours long. You’ll be suspending even higher than the Classic Adventure course with more ziplines and harder obstacles such as climbing ropes, walking through wobbly bridges, and even going on a ride on a wrecking ball. 9/11 is a strange date for me for many reasons. I was a college sophomore who had zero relations to the twin towers, and yet somehow, 22 years later, I would consider myself a specialist on the history of the World Trade Center Site.
