Food intolerances are NOT the same as food allergies but often times people belittle the severity or legitmacy of food intolerances so I started saying food allergies just so people would understand the importance of avoiding these foods for my health. HOWEVER, I have since realized avoiding a laundry list of foods was not the solution, but rather healing the underlying root cause of these intolerances. If you've been healing your gut for more than 6 months, then you NEED to start shifting some serious attention to regulation work 🚨🚨 Let's say individual A, for example, has a negative reaction to gluten for the first time, perhaps bloating and indigestion, so individual A's brain 🧠 clocks that food as dangerous. The primary function of the brain is to protect your physical body from pain and suffering, so if something causes pain to the body, it pays very special attention to remember the trigger and mark it as dangerous ⚠️ You have to understand that the brain is clever - it is designed to be as efficient as possible. And it demonstrates its efficiency by the formation of habits. Once we do something enough times, the cue and response becomes unconscious. This way, the brain can devote resources to learning new things. This is where chronic food intolerances become dangerous to the brain. So individual A has this experience with gluten and bloating and indigestion, let's say, 20 times. The brain does what it does. It creates a habit of associating cue - gluten, with response, bloating and indigestion. It stores this response out of the conscious mind. This is called a neural pathway. And a very strong one at that. Individual A might have healed their gut by now. They found out they had candida overgrowth, for example. They've done the work to heal, their tests are coming back clear, but they still can't eat gluten! They have the same reaction. Why? Because the problem is much bigger than the overgrowth now. It stems from the brain. This neural pathway that automates a response to gluten, regardless of the physical circumstances. Individual A might think they're not healed, when really they are. All they have to do is retrain the brain. This process applies to every adverse reaction you've ever had.
