Sakishima bioactive build 🦎🌿 check it out in person at the @Reptile Super Show next weekend! Watch as I hand craft a bromilead bungalow 🏠 this totally custom built glass enclosure along with background, scaping, and plants will be available at the @Reptile Super Show in less than a month! Cutting wood to create a “root system” is something I enjoy doing in my enclosures. And it’s easier than it looks: all it takes is finding the right branches, flip them upside down, and boom! I also like how the background of this enclosure turned out. By the time it’s filled with hardscape and plants it disappears, always bitter sweet. Despite all the work that went into this enclosure, it is designed to be easy enough for a beginner to maintain! Using only bromileads makes for a beautiful display that is hardy and easy to take care of. And no, they’re not fake; those beautiful colors are very real! The clean up crew will be getting to work multiplying in the next month until the show on January 6-7 and they will come with the enclosure. This enclosure is designed to house small to mid size anoles. The animal in this enclosure is an anolis roquet saleini that I produced. Wow is it a pretty lizard! Hope you enjoy the build and if you’re able to make it to the Pomona Super Show come see how it grew in next month and maybe even take it home! #HerpTime #reptile #terrarium #vivarium #bioactive #diy #asmr

This world record enclosure of the most tarantulas sharing one home is something I'm very honored to have helped with and have to thank my friend @Aram of Urban Tarantulas for including me! These M. balfouri are one of the only communal species of spider that get along in a giant communal colony like this. We built a nice and simple background so that this communal had some nice areas to climb on and share. Nothing too fancy because remember these tarantuals will cover this whole enclosure in white web in just a few days, and Aram will need to periodically go in this enclosure and clean it out. So an over the top background with crazy hardscape and bioactive doesnt make much sense for this build. When b uilding an enclosure, it is definelty best to build with the animal(s) in mind first, and what will best fit their needs, as well as what will best dispaly them. And I think this enclosure over time will prove to do just that! #HerpTime #animals #tarantula #asmr

Amazonian stream side paludarium build for some very special little lizards! These are South American stream lizards (Potamites) which look so crocodilian in such a small package! To fit in with the South American critters theme, from the same range are some neon tetras and cory cats. Not only is there solid land for the lizards with hiding areas and cover, but more than half the waters surface has plant life they can find shelter in and hunt in. These little lizards prey on terrestrial insects and also aquatic inverts. Big thanks to @Zoo Med Laboratories, Inc. for making these great paludariums and also making the supporting product and gadgets to make a build like this possible. From the land platform, filter, lighting, fogger, and control center, that’s about all the gizmos needed to maintain a build like this long term. The stream lizard pair in this habitat are full grown and will make use of both the land and water. They will also use the higher branches to some extent (as seen) but I’m thinking to possibly add a more arboreal species to accompany in this enclosure as it progresses. Whether that’s a lizard or frog I am not sure yet (maybe even a snake?). I like how this build turned out and the simplicity of it without background truly feels like a direct slice of this little micro habitat these lizards call home. #HerpTime #reptile #lizard #terrarium #vivarium #paludarium #plantedtank #aquascape #satisfying #asmr

This is how I set up an enclosure for the baby lizards I hatch 🐣 the bottom layers designed for drainage since there will be a lot of misting, and all the small twigs/roots give plenty of perches and options to hang out! The airplants are some added fun that can’t go wrong with 🌱 these @herpcult enclosures are escape proof for the little lizards and definitely a product I recommend! Cockroach invasion 🪳 a bit of a different mukbang today for the baby anoles 🦎 the usual crickets along side some dubia roaches and red runner roaches courtesy of @CucarachaPlug 🔌 I’m dusting with calcium and vitamins just to make sure these babies are getting everything they need to grow strong and healthy 💪 I’ve been experimenting with some variation in diet, feeding schedules, and diversified gut loading to see what grows these baby anoles the best. Shipping this lizard was one of my biggest regrets 🤦♂️ this is how I package my animals for shipping across the country through FedEx using Redline Shipping 📦 an insulated box with a temperature controlling pack to regulate the heat pack I add, lots of paper for cushion, the animal safely placed in a deli cup, and all sealed up with labels indicating what animal is inside the box. I do it in this fashion for most lizards this size and smaller, no matter the monetary value. Luckily nothing went wrong and this amazing lizard got to its new home safe, but I trust Redline for shipping all my reptiles, especially one of a kind like this. I use Redline because of their great customer service if anything went wrong. This post is not sponsored or paid for. But I know if there was a delay or I needed to make an insurance claim, Robyn and the Redline team would have had me covered. Gives me a little more peace of mind shipping an animal like this through the mail. Especially when I wish I had kept it for myself 😆 #HerpTime #reptile #lizard #tokaygecko #unboxing #asmr #satisfying

Time to season some crickets 🦗🧂with some ZooMed Repti Calcium and Reptivite 💊 I always get asked “whats the white stuff?” when I post a feeding video: calcium and multivitamin. Specifically from @Zoo Med Laboratories, Inc. which is truthfully my favorite brand for supplements. I use these to enhance and enrich the feeder insects I give to my lizards. This is because the insects we feed in captivity don’t always necessarily contain all the vitamins and minerals our lizards would be eating in the wild, so adding it makes sure they get everything they need for healthy growth, bodily function, and successful reproduction. I prefer the ZooMed supplements not only because they fulfill the nutritional needs for my animals, and I’ve produced multiple healthy generation of lizard using almost exclusively these two products, but because it’s the best product I’ve found to stick to the feeders!! Effortlessly, the calcium and vitamins will attach to crickets or other feeders when shaken well, and will not come off for nearly an indefinite period of time! Other brands don’t adhere well or eventually start to fall off after a bit of time. I haven’t found that problem with this product! And I don’t think the lizards mind it one bit. I always get a kick out of watching my lizards eat, and I hope you will too, Enjoy! #HerpTime #reptile #lizard #asmr #satisfying

Hydrophobic anolis 💦 I often get asked if I had to choose only one anole to keep, which would it be? My consistent answer is the Cuban stream anole, Anolis vermiculatus. The beautiful green mottled pattern coupled with bright blue eyes, along with their crocodilian/monitor esque structure and intelligent behavior all contribute to why I love this species. This video displays a bonus feature: being semi aquatic and often taking to water to escape danger or to catch food, vermiculatus boast completely waterproof skin. Being able to hold their breath for extended periods of time, they can pop out of the water completely dry as if they were never submerged. It is an amazing design that I’m lucky enough to witness regularly, so why not share it with you all! I do breed this species, but will not have any available for at least a year so please refrain from asking if you’ve read this far lol. And of course no lizards harmed in the making of this video 📹 #HerpTime #animals #reptile #lizard #anole

Tens of thousands of crickets a week 🦗 it’s only natural to eventually really dislike them 🚫 Their inevitable odor, their loud chirps, their feel when one gets under your shirt or back of your neck 🤢(it happens more than you think when you have to feed off 35,000 a week). I really don’t enjoy crickets. But I really do enjoy watching them get eaten 😃 so join me for a quick minute of the worst part of my day (unboxing crickets and having a couple crawl up my pant leg) and the best part of my day (watching my lizards destroy them). The white stuff I put on them is calcium/vitamins. And I throw them in the enclosure so the lizards can more naturally forage for them. The size of the crickets may look a bit little for the lizard size, but I opt for smaller crickets as they are much less capable of destroying any eggs in the soil than large ones which have much bigger mandibles and appetites! Bon voyage crickets 👋 #HerpTime #animals #reptile #lizard #anole #asmr #satisfying

I put my lizards in a refrigerator 3 months ago, and today I take them out. In order to trigger breeding in these Madrean alligator lizards (Elgaria kingii) I need to put them in brumation. Brumation is a reptiles version of hibernation where they basically don’t move much and wait for spring. They never truly “fall asleep” but their heart rate, breathing, and metabolism slow down and use nearly zero energy. Naturally, with the change of seasons, they would go under ground and prepare for winter. Since these lizards are in captivity, I have to artificially create winter. Without putting the lizards into brumation, they wouldn’t know it’s spring (once winter is over), and wouldn’t know it’s time to make more babies. I do not feed them 2 weeks before brumation, to totally flush out their systems since any food left would go undigested in the cold temperatures and would essentially rot in their bodies. Once off of food and ready to go, I drop them down to about 55-50 degrees Fahrenheit. They stayed at this temperature for 3 months. In nature, they may get much cooler, but it’s not necessary to get them much colder as it can get risky. And low 50s is enough for them to get the memo it’s time to snooze! Once out, I’ll warm them back up over the course of a week or two and put them on a heavy feeding schedule to fatten up the girls for egg laying! Let’s hope for some eggs and babies soon! #HerpTime #reptile #lizard

It’s munch time 🦗 Watching the baby anoles eat is one of the best parts of the day 🙌 I feed them 1 week old crickets which are about 2-3/16 of an inch, and they eat this size for anywhere from 1 to 4 months of age, depending on growth 📏 The white stuff I sprinkle on is calcium supplement and vitamin supplement, which I only sprinkle on about every 3-4 feedings. Of course I only film these ones as it’s much easier to see the tiny crickets when they’re covered in ❄️ I will generally keep babies communally if they are of similar size. I keep their housing relatively bare (no plants, not much cover, pretty open) so that I can observe each baby easily so that if there are ever any issues, I can address them as soon as I see it. With less visual barriers I can keep much better track of the several hundred babies I have at any given time! Enjoy watching the babies enjoying their meal 🍽️ #HerpTime #herpetology #reptile #reptiles #lizard #lizards #anole #anoles #asmr #satisfying #animal #animals #wildlife #nature #crickets

Some of my favorite species of micro geckos in this video 🔍 these particular little geckos all fall in the genus sphaerodactylus — "sphaero" means round, and "dactylus" is for finger... if you look closely they all have tiny round finger tips 😅 they have little sticky pads on each tip to scale nearly any surface! Species in order are ocujal, caicoensis, rosaurae, and alphus. #HerpTime #reptile #lizard #gecko #microgecko #babyanimals #cuteanimals #nature

Worms fit for a dragon 🪱 this is the coveted Borneo earless monitor (lanthanotus borneensis)🦎 it’s favorite meal is earth worms, and it sure isn’t shy to eat them! Naturally these animals are very cryptic, living in the shadows and hardly being seen. So for this video I decided to show something rarely seen: an earless monitor eating in high definition! This baby was sent over by @Cold Blooded Shop who captive bred them here in the US, and since I have been feeding it by hand. Even with in the unusual environment of crystal clear water with bright lights, this little dragon has no problem wrestling for its meal, tearing the worm apart mid water, and even eating in my hand! Again, this feeding presentation was just for this video to display how amazing these shy animals are — something that can be overlooked due to their mysterious nature and scarce footage. Enjoy! #HerpTime #reptile #lizard

Speed run making a baby gecko with me! These are ashy geckos (sphaerodactylus elegans), a very easy to keep species of micro gecko. The babies pop out looking like little highlighters and are adorable, but I think the even more incredible feat of nature is how the females lay eggs. This female will go thru this process of laying one large egg (in relation to her body size) at a time. Sometimes once a month, sometimes in even shorter intervals! All species of sphaerodactylus lay one egg at a time just like this, and I find it amazing what their little bodies are able to accomplish. Just the amount of space in the body the egg takes up, and the energy and nutrients it takes to create such a proportionately large egg. Extremely taxing on their bodies, yet they can lay several in a breeding season! Just another reason to be amazed by these little geckos. #HerpTime #reptile #gecko #microgecko

First official frog 🐸 post on HerpTime? You know it 🙌 This next @Reptile Super Show I plan to bring many different captive bred species of frogs, and so many other vendors will as well, per usual! Fun video just showing off some frogs I enjoy and the goofy vocalizations they make. These are just a few of the species I’ve started working with in the past year. This is HERP-time after all, and frogs are definitely herps… and it is ALWAYS HerpTime! I’ve kept amphibians on and off for 20 years, but this time it’s not just a phase 👨🎤 lots of research, learning the hard way, and learning by example, I’m excited to have a few spawns under the belt at the HQ😅 A life time more of learning left, I hope all my fellow herp enthusiasts don’t mind a frog video in the mix of HerpTime content 🫡 come learn alongside me, since that’s the best part about this hobby; you’ll never know it all, and when you think you do, you haven’t even scratched the surface! Oh, and don’t forget to attend the Reptile Super Show! #HerpTime #animals #reptile #frog

Creating a cliff side cage with styrofoam and cement ⚒️ this @zoomedlabs reptihabitat enclosure is a size I really like for raising multiple baby lizard in, with both plenty of height and space for them. Great size that I don’t really see anywhere else. This enclosure is designed to be a Cuban cliff side for some of my baby Cuban cliff anoles (anolis bartschi). I start off by carving styrofoam to create the cliff ledges. I orient them all at a similar angle to create the affect that the cliff face is multiple layers of natural stone face. Once the ledges are in place with tape, I go in with expanding foam to fill in all the other areas and add to the ledges. A day later when dry, time to carve to get closer to the final product. The carved foam is then covered with plastic cement, which is very easily maliable depending on the amount of water added. I use sponges to create a natural “sand stone” texture. A few days later and the cement has cured. Cuban cliff anoles are a species that will do well in cooler ambient temps compared to other anoles, which allows for the use of mosses on the cliff face since they won’t get too hot or dry. The hydro balls and reptisoil that ZooMed offer is also a favorite of mine for bioactive enclosures like this! Planting kept a little spars just so I can more easily observe the babies’ growth and development. This enclosure will serve its purpose in raising up my baby cliff anoles until they’re ready for their new homes! #HerpTime #reptile #terrarium #asmr

It’s time to make an extravagant mossy vivarium for some very special little herps! This @Zoo Med Laboratories, Inc. enclosure is a new size by them that is perfect for terrestrial set ups like these. The light along with fogger definitely add a lot to the overall moodiness and vibe of the enclosure as well. These amphibians come from forests all over the European continent, so ferns and mosses were a must. Though not very aquatic at this stage, they will still definitely use the water area provided. A lot of preparation and work went into an enclosure like this, but in the end it is so worth it. Having access to a lot of moss was definitely the key to making this enclosure look “aged”. I so enjoy these little salamanders, as they’re basically moist lizards. But who said HerpTime only does lizards, it’s in the name! All herps are welcome, because it’s always HerpTime! #HerpTime #salamander #reptile #terrarium #vivarium

POV: pack an order of Christmas lizards (red &green) with me! The vast majority of pet reptiles in the world were shipped at one point or another: to a pet store or directly to their new owners! Either way, as you can see, many precautions such as insulated boxes, phase packs, heat packs, and proper labeling must take place for the safety of the lizards to successfully arrive at their destination. A few people are always shocked that animals get sent through the mail, but I promise it is minimally stressful on the animals when done correctly, and they are in transit for less than 24 hours! Only Santa Slause himself can beat that delivery time! #HerpTime #POV #reptile #lizard #asmr #packingorders

Collecting eggs in the winter 🥶 all the enclosures here house anoles, and peak breeding season in warmer and longer days of summer a female may lay an egg every 6-7 days 😳 but in order to give a break to the girls, in the winter cooling them down, shorter days (lights on for less time),and decreased food slows everything down. These are tropical species, and don’t experience any severe winters, and thus some females may still lay an egg or two per month, some no eggs at all, but nothing like the 5-6 that is usual in breeding months. I collect the eggs out of the enclosures to minimize risk of eggs getting eaten by feeder insects, improper temperature, or humidity that may cause the egg not to reach term. Once I find an egg, I prepare a perlite-water mix so that the egg can stay at a high humidity and continue to absorb water as it grows. Perlite (the white stuff) is commonly used in gardening to aerate soil. I’ll then “candle” the egg (shine a light up to it) to find the correct orientation the egg must be placed in. Unlike bird eggs which need rotation, reptile embryos set themselves within the egg 24-48 hours after being laid. If positioned incorrectly the embryo can drown under their own fluids. In this video you can even see some movement in the egg! Place it in the incubation container and labeled so I know what it is when it hatches, and 45-60 days later depending on temps a brand new baby will pop out 🐣 with the warmer months coming and warming the lizards back up, expect lots more eggs and babies to be on their way! #HerpTime #reptile #lizard #terrarium #process #asmr #satisfying

My lizards are getting a treat with this holiday smoothie snack 🥤 most people don’t know that geckos aren’t the only lizards that enjoy a fruity morsel 🍉 So do many anoles and most grass lizards 🦎 In nature they would be eating things like nectar, flowers, small berries, and rotten/open fruit. But here, we have the luxury of blenders! So why not give them a bit of a treat. Inlcuding crickets, shrimp, bee pollen, calcium, and vitamins in the mix is also a great way to get them to get the extra stuff they need while they think they’re enjoying dessert… pretty sure my mom used to trick me the same way when I was a kid! I do feed mostly insects to my anoles and grass lizards, but plant matter such as this is still an important and essential part often overlooked in the diet of these amazing little lizards. And even if you don’t have an anole but do have a gecko that eats pre made foods, why not splurge and have some fun making them their very own smoothie this holiday season! They’ll be thankful! #HerpTime #reptile #lizard #asmr #recipe

Baby Madrean alligator lizards (Elgaria king) from day they were laid as eggs to day they emerged out of them 🐣 don't get me wrong, I love anoles, but alligator lizards will always have a special place in my heart. Producing these was one of the more rewarding species hatched here and can't wait to raise all these little ones up to see how they turn out. Elgaria is just another genus that is very under appreciated and we don't realize just how amazing animals in our own backyards can be! #HerpTime #reptile #lizard

Feeding a few of the micro geckos that will be at @Reptile Super Show tomorrow and Sunday! These little dime sized lizards never cease to amaze me. You can watch the gears turning in their heads while literally being only a centimeter or two in size. I feed them a variety of mainly crickets, fruit flies, bean beetles, and other small insects. In my experience they only eat insects, no premade diets like day geckos or New Caledonian species. Their care is extremely easy in my opinion, and make wonderful specimens for micro displays. Breeding is also very straight forward once a pair has matured. I would not suggest getting one if handling is of importance as they’re quick and fragile, a terrible combination when it comes to handleability! Overall just fascinating and fun animals that I am so glad to be able to work with! #HerpTime #reptile #lizard #gecko #asmr

Just because these may be micro geckos🦎 does not mean their micro home should be any less than that of my larger reptiles! This pair of Sphaerodactylus rosaurae are getting a remodel in this new @herpcult small front opening enclosure! These small geckos spend a lot of time hiding in bark and leaf litter, which are some important elements I add here. Though they do spend time hiding, they also do like to climb and explore, which breaking up a stick into lots of little twigs does the job. They can also climb glass so if they get tired of the rustic looking twigs, they can take to the walls! I did not include a drainage layer as these geckos tend to do better with some misting and a day or two of "drying out", and thus a drainage layer isn't necessary. I also included Herpcult's LED UVA/UVB fixture for these little guys. I have had success breeding micro geckos without UV, but if can add it, why not! And that’s a UV meter showing the output that little light has; I measure the strength from the average placement of basking branches and it ranges from 8.0-5.0, perfect for a terrarium this size. This pair has given me many eggs and babies, and more to come God willing. Hope you enjoy this little ASMR enclosure build, I'll keep doing these ASMR builds until y'all are tired of them! #herptime #reptiles #lizard #gecko #microgecko #terrarium #vivarium #asmr #satisfying

Lizards that squeak 🤨 Volume up for this one 🔊 This group of Cuban stream anoles (anolis vermiculatus) is one of my favorite lizard breeding projects, with over a dozen individual adults. Despite being quite amazing animals, they tend to be very shy. So the best and sometimes only way to get a good look at their health is the wrangle them out of their enclosures. Funny part is, they make it very clear they would rather be left alone — they can talk! Well not literally talk, but they are able to squeak and make different noises from quick short squeals to low slow growls lol. Pretty amazing! They usually only make these noises when being handled or fighting over territory with one another. Just something you don’t see every day. And until today, I’ll bet you never knew what an anole talking sounded like… you’re welcome! #HerpTime #reptile #lizard #learn

I think my lizards are broken! They’re squeaking! Not many lizards are capable of vocalization, but at least 16 species of anoles are, and here are just a few examples in my collection. I explain why they have this ability in the video, but no matter how you look at it, it’s pretty comical. From shrill squeals to soft chirps, the range in all the different species is definitely intriguing. I’m not sure if anyone has taken the time to record video of all the species vocalizing, but here’s a good start to a few! I keep several other species that will vocalize, but comfort of the animal comes first so if they were not cooperating or willing to vocalize in the short time I pulled them out for filming I left them be. This video is for educating about these amazing lizards but of course their comfort must come first. No lizards harmed while filming, just a bit grumpy. Enjoy! #HerpTime #reptile #lizard #learn

I love it ✅ Such phenomenal little works of art each and every one of these geckos is 🎨 Micro geckos over the last few years have become a large interest of mine and you can see why: the variety of all the species, the uniqueness each individual possesses, the understanding behind their tiny eyes, the ease of care, and the ability to house many in a relatively small area! It’s much easier to house and care for 100s of micro geckos than 100s of monitor lizards 🙌 All species in the video can be found on my morph market wink wink 😉 #HerpTime #reptile #lizard #microgecko

To many people these may be just a random boring lizard, but I see a micro crocodile with incredible color and personality! Aquatic and semi aquatic animals have always intrigued me as long as I can remember. And these lizard scratch that itch I have for an outgoing and beautiful semi aquatic display animal. These stream lizards, thought to be Potamites ecpleopus, most likely spec nova (a new species, yet to be formally described), are one of my favorite projects I’m working with. And what an honor to hatch some babies! This simpler set up will suit the babies for a little while until they gain some size and hardiness. I’ll also be able to monitor them easier and clean it easier as well. I’m hopeful to establish this species in the hobby, and if that’s a project you want in on make sure you keep in touch or check my morph market as I’m hoping some more adults will arrive soon. Establishing a field collected species into the captive hobby is easier with cooperation and collaboration. Even if just 2-3 of you find these mini crocs cool, I hope you consider joining me in learning about, keeping, and breeding them! #HerpTime #reptile #lizard #terrarium #paludarium #asmr

Meet the Guanaja large scaled geckolet, which I prefer to call by its Latin name: Sphaerodactylus alphus. Sphaerodactylus is the group (genus) of geckos this species falls into, and they’re some of the smallest geckos on earth. To give you an idea of their tinyness, alphus is the largest species in all of Sphaerodactylus! Sphaerodactylus is latin, “sphaero” meaning round or sphere, and “dactylus” meaning toes. Makes perfect sense when you get some close up feet pics of these guys! And what does alphas mean? Literally means white spot on the skin. How fitting lol. Of course, the common name also has a meaning: Gauanaja are where these geckos are from; large scale is because they have such large, incredible scales for the size of their body; and geckolet because they’re literally tiny geckos. I know you’re wondering: are sphaerodactylus good pets? Well, probably not. Unlike leopards and cresteds, these geckos aren’t handleable. For the keeper that doesn’t have that need for handling, these geckos might be for you! When set up in the proper environment they are amazing to watch and observe doing their thing, just being sphaerodactylus. #HerpTime #reptile #lizard #macro #gecko #microgecko

The Jamaican turquoise anole (anolis grahami) has to be one of the most exquisitely colored reptiles on the planet! Blue and purple as an adult, yellow and orange as a hatchling! I enjoy breeding this species and there is definitely demand for them as terrarium inhabitants, so I’m happy to supply fellow hobbyists. I remove the eggs from the enclosure because it gives better odds of a higher hatch rate. Hatching in the enclosure is entirely possible, and this species is one that I have never ever seen harm babies. But collecting the eggs allows me to completely control their fragile incubation. If left in the enclosure, soil can get too moist and rot them, soil can become too dry and dehydrate them, temperature may fluctuate into unideal ranges, and rogue feeder insects may turn them into meals. All reasons I collect and artificially incubate. As you can see in the video, eggs are a very soft, pliable texture. They are a thin leathery membrane that will absorb water all of incubation. Once hatched, care of the baby is identical to the adults. Within 10-12 months, this orange baby will look very similar to the male shown in this video. Even females get the bright turquoise body and purple tail! Anolis grahami is a fairly outgoing species and make such amazing displays, tolerating a range of temperatures and humidities in the home terrarium. And come on, those colors are second to none! Next enclosure you plan to set up, consider planning one for a cool anole species like grahami! #HerpTime #reptile #lizard #anole
