Not so fun fact, when we don’t know something, our brains will automatically try to fill the gap based on past negative experiences! Love that our brain/body loves to attempt to keep us safe - however not so great for negative assumption making in romantic relationships! Next time you sense a disconnect with your partner, consider these steps: 1. Create a quiet space for conversation without distractions. Do this when it is also time appropriate & you both can give it your full attention. 2. Share your feelings of disconnection openly and without blame. Speak vulnerable and express your desire to want to reconnect. Blaming or finding faults is only going to push them into their stress response and make you the threat. 3. Ask your partner how they’ve been feeling and actively listen. 4. Plan a shared activity that you both enjoy to rekindle your bond. Use this time not to bring up the issues but rather focus on reconnecting. The goal here is to bring you back into that parasympathetic nervous system aka the connection state. 6.
