Planting non native and invasive plants just because humans can eat them is not restoration. Many of the plants we eat are native to Europe and give very little benefit to native wildlife. The point of guerrilla gardening is to plant native plants that benefit ecology and help make cities and suburbs less of a biodiversity wasteland. Or help save a native plant from extinction like the endangered California hibiscus. Today we are going to try and stop the extinction of one of my favorite native flowers. We are guerrilla gardening the endangered California hibiscus, a beautiful wildflower that used to be common before colonization. And we are removing invasive plants like water hyacinths that are destroying native habitats. But if we don't save the delta from the delta tunnels, chinook salmon and the California hibiscus are doomed. Saving an endangered species is easy when people actually try. Water is life. Even as a forester I’m so tired of the tree planting campaigns. If you truly believe there’s a problem let’s use some common sense. Here’s how ecosystems have changed.. we have more trees than ever, while we’ve lost 99.9% of grasslands, we have 40 million acres of mowed grass. #nativehabitatproject #ecosystems #climate #biodiversitycrisis #planttrees #grasslands #prairies

A crime against Mother Nature ocurred in sacramento California. And people need to know. Two days ago at midnight 41 mature and old growth oak trees were logged, while residents of sacramento slept. Trying to hide the crime. These oak trees were over 250 years old. And they were logged for more unsustainable suburban sprawl. The mayor of sacramento says this happened so that kb homes could build affordable homes. That is a blatant lie. The riverfront homes here start bidding at 600 thousand dollars. Native oaks are the most beneficial native plant in California, these trees help support over 2 thousand species of wildlife. Including over 100 species of native moths and butterfly. They are a true keystone species that help countless endangered species survive. Without native oak trees there is no biodiversity in this state. That is why protecting them is so important. Protect oak trees in California. #environment #crime #sacramento #california #oldgrowth #oak #trees #sadvibes #suburban #invasivespecies #mustard #oaktree #redwoods #climatecrisis #treelover #wildlife #nativeplants #ecology #nativeplanttok #calltoaction #rareplants #ecosystem #extinction #endangeredspecies #climatejustice #urban #biology #botany #native #plant #conservation #nativehabitatproject #development #biodiversity #leaveitbetter #sustainability

Cities and suburbs in California constantly landscape with invasive trees that smell like stank and monoculture grass lawns. Bradford pears are a horticultural atrocity used all over America where native biodiversity once was. Especially tacky hank hill suburbs. This trees are invasive and do nothing beneficial for native wildlife. You could be growing beautiful native plants like ceanothus. A nitrogen fixing plant that is extremely drought. When it’s in bloom the entire shrub looks blue , and is covered with native bees. I’m sick of smelling stinky trees every spring when we could be having yearly superblooms that look and smell good. Ditch the invasive stank trees and kill your lawn to plant a native ceanothus. #california #nativeplants #landscape #natureathome #lawncare #native #bees #ecology #learnontiktok #suburban #invasivespecies #bradfordpear #wildflowers #savethebees #nativeplanttok #botany #sacramento #sf #bayarea #cali #plantlover #superbloom #flora #guerrillagardening #generation #endangeredspecies #bumblebee #conservation #habitat #nativehabitatproject #indigenous #flowers #tree #trees #plantnative

Replying to @Texastic 🪳 Protecting and saving endangered species that depend on the Sacramento San Joaquin delta means protecting habiats that endangered chinook salmon depend on. And it means protecting cities and towns from erosion and flooding during winter storms. But the delta ecosystem is im crisis. While plants like the endangered hibiscus go extinct in the wild. Today we are going to show you how easy it is to stop the extinction of one of my favorite California native wildflowers, if people just tried. California native plants have evolved with fire for millions of years , and they depend on wildfires to thrive. Before smokey the bear and colonization the California hibiscus was commonly found all along the delta. But thanks to agriculture and Southern California the delta is being drained just like Tulare lake. Guerrilla gardening this wildflower is easy, even without wildfire. Liquid smoke is made from the smoke of wood burning. It contains all the natural smoke chemicals that wildfires have. Mixing a few drops of liquid smoke with hot water and some endangering hibiscus seeds, will trigger the wildflower seeds to germinate. Guerrilla garden these seeds and you will be helping a beautiful endangered wildflower that is endemic to only California. Saving a endangered species is easy when people actually try. No delta tunnels. Water is life. Plant native. #guerrillagardening #endangeredspecies #waterislife #rareplants #endangered #nativeplants #hibiscus #salmon #gardening101 #wildfire #climateaction #hibiscusflower #river #creek #ecosystem #wildflower #restoration #seedstarting #rare #flower #seeds #sacramento #la #water #invasivespecies #pampasgrass #waterhyacinth #nativeplanttok #nativehabitatproject #delta

A whole generation of grandparents who grew up hunting quail will never get to share that experience with their grandchildren because of choices WE made. WE chose our own idea of “neat and tidy” over the native biodiversity in our country. Now those grandkids are making decisions and changing the way we manage these landscapes. We’re putting an end to some bad traditions to get back to our real traditions! #nativehabitatproject #grasslands #prairies #wildlife #biodiversity

Protecting the freshwater at wetlands and vernal pools in California means protecting a habitat that endangered species like the California hibiscus and chinook salmon depend on to survive. And not go extinct like many other plants and animals have. Most wetland habitats have been destroyed for agriculture and suburban sprawl. Causing a biodiversity crisis in this state. This is why you should guerrilla garden endangered plants. Today we are going to look for rare flowers and succulents that are thriving during a California native wildflower superbloom. Endemic plants like the rare cascade onion and canyon Dudleya only grow on rocks in the wild. And can only be found growing in California. These beautiful plants used to be common before colonization. If we dont save these biodiversity rich ecosystems development , wont be able to end the extinction crisis. Protect water in California. Im not climate denying but we can’t suppress a naturally occuring cycle, allow fuel to build up, and then when a fire starts during the hot/dry time of the year place the blame where it doesn’t belong. In this case it’s not climate change it’s fire suppression and mismanagement of the landscape. #nativehabitatproject #wildfires #smokeybear #prescribedfire #forestry #forestservice

#MemeCut #meme When you see another native habitat that helps protect endangered species being destroyed to build more suburban sprawl of unaffordable homes. So you bust out the seed bombs of aggressive growing endangered native plant seeds and native milkweed rhizomes , so they legally can’t expand. Helping protect endangered species and there native habitats , while costing luxury home developers a lot of money is the definition of guerrilla gardening. Kill your lawn. Manzanita’s fire adaptation is exactly like old growth redwoods. California native plants have evolved with fire for millions of years , and manzanita not only survive wildfires. They thrive after them. California is home to over 40 species of native manzanita, and all are unique in their own ways. Some manzanita store engery in a giant burl at the trees base. After a fire new sprouts will grow from the burl , even if the tree is completely burned to ashes biodiversity will thrive. Because like giant sequoias , manzanita seeds germinate after fire. Manzanita are native members of the blueberry family, and bloom in early winter when no other flowers are available. These flowers are a extremely crucial food source for native bees and migratory hummingbirds. Without them many pollinators could not survive winter in California. I great way to help native wildlife biodiversity thrive is to replace you monoculture grass lawn and invasive Bradford pear trees with native manzanita and wildflowers. Mother Nature will thank you. Protect native plant ecosystems.
