I was having chest pains and a hard time breathing last weekend, so I went to the ER to get checked out. They kept me for 3 days to run countless tests plus observe my condition and monitor my heart. Unfortunately it is very serious and they discovered that I have a condition called cardiomyopathy, which means my heart is weak and working way harder than it should. Normally this occurs due to a blockage of the heart. I don’t have any blocked arteries which is the good news. The bad news is that this is possibly linked to my family history of heart disease and heart attacks (especially at a young age). Even though I have been working out for over 35 years, eat healthy, ran the NYC marathon, completed multiple Spartan races, trained in Krav Maga and boxing, I’m one of the rare cases where a person “just” develops cardiomyopathy. The painful reality is that sometimes you just can’t beat your genetics no matter how hard you work. It’s almost like trying to swim upstream; maximum effort with minimal or limited results. However I am extremely lucky and grateful for so many things; friends, family and of course my boy, Magnus. Both of my daughters stayed with me all 3 days while I was in the hospital; making sure I was comfortable, had enough pillows and that I had yummy food to eat (because I am a huge foodie). They really stepped up and did EVERYTHING for me. Friends were also in my corner helping in any way possible. I’m lucky to still be extremely close to a large group of friends from when I was a kid; friends since the 3rd, 4th & 5th grade. These people aren’t really just friends anymore, but family. They all checked in with me constantly to see if I was ok or needed them to help in anyway. The outpouring of love and support has been overwhelming. Then there is Magnus. Thankfully he was allowed to stay with me 24/7 because he is also my service dog. He did exactly what he does best; kept me relaxed and took my mind off the current situation. He knows when to cuddle and when to get “goofy.” He made the medical staff smile and also kept my girls calm. I love this dog more than he will ever know. ❤️ #servicedog #labradorsoftiktok #cardiomyopathy #dogsarefamily

It’s quite embarrassing to post this but I think it’s good advocacy for Epilepsy During this video, Echo brought preventative medication but it was too late An “aura” had presented and I was beginning to enter a seizure. Echo barked to alert that a big seizure was happening. He laid on my body to prevent dislocations. During seizures, I have no idea what’s happening. Echo is the reason for my safety and independence when I’m alone or in public. My seizure became a little more aggressive but he stayed regardless and im proud of him. I had to cut the video quite a bit because the seizure was longer and the video was over 3 hours. #seizureawareness #servicedog #epilepsy #seizureresponse #assistancedog #seizurealertdog

Often times #POTS hits you in the most random moments. Which is why Bailey is so vital to my health. The daily struggle with POTS is often a silent fight. People do not understand how debilitating it is on a daily basis. My condition worsens as I try to just keep my life in order. It’s so unbelievably heartbreaking to realize your body can’t even handle doing dishes anymore. #pots #potssyndrome #potsawareness #spoonless #disability #POTS #fyp #foryou #servicedog #GetCrackin

This is the 6th time Magnus had flown on a plane and he was an incredible ! He really is the best travel buddy! TSA again insisted on taking off ALL of Magnus’ equipment (leash, collar etc) off since it was setting off the metal detectors. Look how incredible he was waiting alone, untethered to anything while I walked through first. Then he came right to me when called, even with all of the distractions going on an at a busy airport. Magnus was able to travel with me because he is now also my SD. During COVID he became my task trained service dog for a severe seizure disorder I have. #servicedog #dog #travel #dogs #labradorlife #doginfluencer #labradorsoftiktok

I feel disappointed and embarrassed posting this. I had been managing my #pots symptoms well enough.. Bailey had always given me time before I got worse. This was different. He didn’t have time. Neither did I. He was with me through the whole ordeal. He licked my hands and face to stimulate me to wake up. He used his body to help reduce jerky/twitching moments while I was unconscious. His body weight helps stabilize me, and helps blood flow. Bailey is there to protect me and keeps me safe through each and every episode. This is something that is so terrifying and I can’t control. I tried to fight it. But ultimately, my body can’t keep up. #servicedog #postualorthostatictachycardiasyndrome #pots #fyp #foryoupage #foryou

please for the love of all thats good, stop petting working service dogs!! Infact stop petting any dog without asking!! Jake is such a superstar for completely just ignoring this person. Leave disabled people and their service dogs alone! #servicedog #serviceanimal #dog #fyp #foryou #disabled #disabilityawareness

As many of you know, Magnus is able to travel with me because he is also my SD. During COVID he became my task trained service dog for a severe seizure disorder I have. Here are some of the most common questions I get asked about traveling with Magnus. Where does he sit? Do I need to pay for his ticket? How does he go through security? Does TSA ever search your dog? Does he ever get distracted in the airport? Where does he go to the bathroom. This video shows what often happens when I take him through security at the airport. As you can see, there must be an extremely high level of trust to go along with the extensive training in order to have your dog completely untethered in an airport. Most dogs would simply run away and probably head to the food court. LOL. However, Magnus ALWAYS remains locked onto me. Knowing that Magnus always behaves like a rockstar makes traveling so easy and stress free. What else do you want to know about traveling with a service dog? #servicedog #dog #travel #dogs #labradorlife
