Blade vs mallet in the new taylormade tp reserve putters for off centre strikes . To make it fair, as the blade is slightly wider I pulled the guide slightly closer for the mallet so that the centre line of each putter was to the left side of the ball . For anyone saying that I hit the mallet harder, I have a video that I’ll post tomorrow where it shows that they were both hit at the same speed . The blade putter however loses speed more than the mallet and therefore will be affected more by any break on the putt . The idea of this putter is very unique as it is designed based on a Texas wedge style of putting by giving it a flat 0° face just a bit wider than the leading edge of a wedge . I actually thought I might struggle with this putter as i do have a tendency of hitting quite high up on the ball with a normal putter but if anything, the strike was feeling better with this Spoiler OG . The feel is really nice off the face and it is one of the easiest putters I have ever used at keeping the face square through impact especially on strikes coming out of the toe . Still need to get it outside and on a course which I will be doing once the weather gets a bit better and will do a proper full review from there . It literally doesn’t matter what your putting stroke looks like.. if it is consistent, you can make it work . Yes having a technically sound motion can make life easier, it also helps a lot when there is pressure and you need to make the putt . However some of the best putters I have seen have had some of the weirdest looking strokes (even when under pressure) . As you aren’t making contact with the ground, needing to gain extra distance or produce spin, putting only relies on two things.. - starting the ball on the correct line - hitting it at the right pace . Both of which can be done with any putter and any stroke . Different types of putters can make it easier to get the ball starting on the right line as long as you have the style of putter matched up with the type of stroke that you have it can make it much easier . This is how to remove an odyssey face insert . This is quite a common fault with these stroke lab putters when the face becomes slightly loose and you can feel it moving as you strike the ball . If this happens to your putter and it lies outside of the two year warranty with the putter, then callaway would be unlikely to replace it so knowing how to do this can be quite useful . By boiling it in a pan for 10 minutes or so, this loosens the double sided tape that’s holding it together . (Yes double sided tape which is probably why they have a history of coming loose 😅) . Once it becomes loose enough to complete remove, u can then try picking it out at a side, just far enough to where you can get something else in there behind it . There is a chance that it might slightly mark the insert doing this so its worth doing it in a corner where it isn’t going to effect the performance of the putter . Once you have something behind the face then it is usually quite easy just to prise the rest of it off . Taylormade TP vs Odyssey AI One vs Scotty Cameron Newport forgiveness test . With the two fairly new releases of the Tp and the AI one I thought why not put them up against each other with the Scotty at the end as well . The Odyssey and the Taylormade were pretty much looking to be the exact same with the same amount of speed and same line on most times that I putt with them . The Scotty however was coming up a bit shorter than the other two and not quite making it to the hole on a few occasions . This could be down to a couple of things maybe even the neck that is on it being different to the other two . However I think the most likely reason would be that a Scotty isn’t exactly designed for its forgiveness aspect whereas the other two are designed for offering a bit more . This is how I glued the insert back into the odyssey stroke lab putter . I have to say that it didnt come out that clean when being pulled out originally and it would really be a better option in getting a replacement insert for this. . However , looks aside and the putter can be used as normal again, as once it was glued back in it is no longer loose and effecting performance . Ive found that two part epoxy is the best way to go about securing it back in, making sure to evenly spread it out over the putter face surface and getting right into the corners . When the insert is placed in, you do need to keep it in place for a good 10 minutes or so to make sure that it sits flat and that they’re aren’t any raised sections especially if it is a reused insert as they do bend quite easy when being pulled out . (It also makes sense due to this reason to use faster setting epoxy that does set in 10 minutes or so) . When you have waited the 10 minutes you could actually call that done but there will be a gap between the inert and the face . This is the zen oracle putter / training aid . It’s a unique putter as it can be used as an ordinary putter while at the same time it can also be used as a training aid.. good for if you want to practice but still keep the same feel in your training aid to the actual putter that you use . It has been used by a few tour players over the years including Danny willett to name just one . The hole is just big enough for the ball to slot into and allows for a release where you would be contacting the ball during a normal putt (it doesn’t stick into the hole so it doesn’t pick the ball up.. for anyone wondering) . The idea with it is to help promote an upward strike and creating top spin while also helping to feel like your rolling the ball down the line with your dominant hand focusing mainly on the release part of the stroke.. . It feels similar to a drill I posted where there is no backswing involved, you place the putter next to the ball and then just roll it forward towards the hole.. it’s the same principle as that . The putter face also feels pretty good and rolls nice if you want to use it as a normal putter, however the hosel does look a bit strange . This is a perfect putting drill if you want to practice keeping your putter head low to the ground . By placing two clubs, (or anything similar) just a bit higher than your putter head and one either side of the ball, this will force you to keep your putter lower.. as if you don’t then you will knock the clubs off whatever you are balancing them on . Keeping it low will help for a much better strike and a more consistent roll so it does have a lot of benefits . The main thing for me is to help prevent hitting the top of the ball too high.. preferably you do want to be hitting up on the ball and creating top spin with it but if you do this too much then you can end up catching the ball to high up and hitting it into the ground instead of up.. the ball will then pop up and loose so much distance . You do need to have the very end of the clubs just in line with the ball so that it is enough for your putter to stay under through the whole stroke but if you place them too far over it then they could catch the hosel . This is a slow motion from yesterdays post of a blade vs a mallet off centre strike comparison with both overlayed into each other . I was expecting there to be a few people arguing with the results yesterday but it seems that I must have done a pretty good job as there wasn’t any complaints about it 🤣 . As you can see in the video here, the mallet and blade go back and through at pretty much identical speeds with maybe a fraction bit of a longer follow through with the blade . Even with that extended follow through you can see that both balls travel on pretty much the exact same line, just with the ball from the mallet doing a better job of maintaining its speed and therefore holding its line better . Going to tempo town with this tempo tray putting aid 😎 . I actually have about 100 of these I was planning on listing through the insta shop but I can’t figure out how to do it just yet 😂 . It is one of the smallest and easiest to use training aids that I’ve come across and are very reasonably priced . There is a lot of talk about having a good tempo within the golf swing but it is just as important when putting as well and this training aid will help you to achieve that . You place the ball in one of the slots on the tray and if your stroke is too jerky then the ball will quite easily drop off . The further out one is more difficult than the closer one to the shaft . I have finally managed to find pretty much the exact thing that I have been trying to find for the past year 😃 . This foam style of oversized golf balls are perfect for practicing putting . Whether you have 10 minutes before you tee off or if you want to build up some confidence on the greens this ball has you covered . By using a ball that is oversized and shaped like a golf ball with dimples on it.. when you come to using an actual golf ball it makes the hole look a lot bigger than it actually is . So yes this is a psychological training aid but having used something similar for a number of years I can say that it is very effective . This is what 950£ will get you in terms of a limited edition Scotty Cameron 🫣 . This is the limited edition Scotty Cameron XXIII Newport 1.5 H23 Holiday Putter . The retail of this putter was £950 with only I believe 1000 to have been made (don’t quote me on that number) but you will find it very difficult to find one in any retail stores now as they are super rare and limited and usually sell out within seconds . I wouldn’t blame you for thinking that £950 for one putter is massively overpriced and I would have to agree to an extent . However… . That is partly the reason that makes this putter so special and other limited releases you might see from Scotty Cameron which release 2-3 times each year . Making them so expensive with so little made is a formula for making one of the most desirable collectible items in all of golf . What’s the best way to check that you are keeping your head still when putting while also mainting good balance? 😏 . By placing a book on your head and making sure that it doesn’t fall off during your stroke, of course . (Helps if you have an oversized head like me) . Not sure who would want to take a book down to the putting green with them so this maybe a better drill for indoors for most people 🤣 . But why do you want to try and keep your head still when putting anyway? . Well any sort of unnecessary movement while putting or in the golf swing for that matter is going to make it more difficult to be consistent . It also will effect how you strike the ball on the putter face as well and can cause more toe/heel strikes and even causing to high or low contact on the face as well .
