I love roasting the stems or making this broccoli stem slaw. The secret is fine julienne chops, and having a good sharp knife makes this task so enjoyable. The knife I'm using is from @WÜSTHOF and quality knives are meant to last a lifetime if you take care of them. After all, taking care of your things is one of the best ways to practice sustainability at home. Broccoli stem slaw Ingredients: 1 cup peeled and julienned broccoli stem (about 1 medium broccoli stem) 1 cup julienned carrots 1 cup julienned green apples 1 cup julienned red peppers 2 cloves garlic, minced 2 tablespoons of olive oil 2 tablespoons soy sauce or tamari 1 tablespoon rice vinegar 1/2 teaspoon sesame oil Juice of 1/2 lime Directions: 1. Her book is full of plant-based and zero waste recipes! This recipe is pretty rustic but you only need two ingredients: - leftover mashed potatoes - cornstarch Instructions: 1. Gradually add cornstarch into your mashed potatoes until an easily moldable dough forms 2. Roll into balls and place on a greased cookies sheet 3. This is the hack you need to upcycle hard to clean bottles! I saw this hack on TT last year, and I don’t remember who posted about it. But, I squirreled away this little nugget to try next time I needed a hand. Because of high oil content in lotion, getting the bottles clean can be tough even with a wider neck bottle. The rice worked SO well as a scourging agent. Replying to @acrosstheacres You’ve been eating your broccoli all wrong. The stalks are the BEST part. 🥦 They’re just as delicious as the florets if you prepare them properly. Just cut away some of the tough exterior. My favorite spice mix: - garlic powder - crushed red pepper flakes - nutritional yeast - basil - salt and pepper to taste Roast at 350 for 30 minutes.
