t’s talk MULTIPLE CURL PATTERNS ON ONE HEAD!! (Ps- it’s gorgeous!! And not something you ‘need’ to address unless it’s bothering you!) Firstly - let me reassure you that nearly EVERY CLIENT that sits down in my chair has multiple curl patterns on their head! So what is going on… ➰IS IT NORMAL, or IS IT DAMAGE?➰ ✨If the curl patterns are on different SECTIONS OF YOUR HEAD- (For example, the nape or your neck is more or less curly)- this is very possibly just natural variation in your curl pattern!* ✨If your ROOTS are LESS CURLY or not curling at all, while your ends make perfect ringlets,- again, this could just be your natural curl pattern! ✨Meanwhile, if your roots are curly but your ENDS ARE falling more STRAIGHT,- like what we see in the before pictures for this client, it can indicate that the ends of the strands are stressed. That might be from breakage, heat damage, previous highlights… *(These are very general rules of thumb and will not apply in all scenarios. It is certainly possibly to have, for example, heat damage or damage from highlights in just one section of your head). 🍃This client had both NATURAL CURL VARIATION (curlier in the front and looser at the back of her head) and variation from STRESS TO HER CURLS (curlier towards the root and looser at the ends).🍃 Even with NATURAL variation in curl pattern, if you want to give your hair the APPEARANCE that there is a slightly more uniform curl pattern, you can do so with cut, product and styling! With this client we used the rake & shake method and diffusing to create the illusion of a more uniform curl pattern. ✨I hover diffused curlier sections where I didn’t need to encourage the curl ✨I pixie diffused looser sections to encourage the curl Do you have multiple curl patterns in your head? Do you embrace the variety- or do you try to make them look more uniform ?? #ottawahairstylist #curlologybymarilyn #curlyhairmagic #ottawacurlstylist #ottawacurlyhairstylist

This client was, and struggled to get maximum bounce out of her hair- not to mention the spirals would fall by the end of the day! If you want to ENCOURAGE loose curl or waves, and you also want the definition to LAST- many folks will need to use a product that has HOLD. Products that have hold include gels, some mousse and in this case, a unique foam by innersense that is VERY strong hold! Products that have hold create stiffness or even a bit of crunchiness in your hair when you diffuse! BUT HEAR ME OUT!! This is called a CAST- and once your hair is 💯 % dry, you can scrunch your hair until all that stiffness or crunchiness disappears- and softness, and volume if you desire, all comes back! Most curl creams have only very soft hold and create a very soft cast or no cast at all. So-can wavies or loose curly folks use curl cream? Of course! But there are a few things to consider: 1) Choose a curl cream that is the right weight for your hair! Curl cream that is too heavy for you will just weigh down your hair. 2) Using a curl cream without a hold product layered on top may mean that you will have to refresh your hair the next day. You simply may not get enough hold, definition and frizz control to get more than one day out of your style. If your lifestyle requires you to wet your hair every day, this might be fine- but otherwise, you might want to consider layering a stronger hold product on top to get more longevity out of your style! Side note** ‼️I almost didnt post this footage‼️—let me tell you why. My hair likes to PUSH OUT THE WATER💧. As soon as I add water, it starts drying. On this day, I didnt add enough curl cream to my hair, (and I was overdue for a deep treatment, more importantly) , so when I am demo-ing the before and after of the rake and shake method on the side of my head , my hair is nowhere near wet enough for the pieces to come together in clumps without getting stringy! ✨🔗SO! How to fix stringy hair? When hair is getting stringy during the rake & shake , the most common issue is that ✨the hair NEEDS MORE WATER, OR ✨the section needs to be smaller either vertically or horizontally. If your hair seems to be unable to retain water, like this section of my hair was on this day, there may be an issue with either the health of hair (which you address wirh deep treatments) or you may need to switch up your styling products- OR BOTH!

Do you ever feel overwhelmed by all of the information for wavy and curly hair online? Often a few small changes can make a HUGE difference in the outcome of your routine! This client did a Curly Transformation @Marilyn Rose- Curly Salon salon with Gal! This is a 2 hour dry cut and curl coaching appointment where you will learn how to get the most out of your curls! For less frizz: ✨Apply products to soaking wet instead of towel dried hair ✨If you usually airdry but end up with more frizz than you want, try hover diffusing at least until you feel the gel cast (usually 5-10 mins), and then airdry. Don’t break the cast until hair is 100% dry!! Products- Recoil by @AG Hair Care Products Ultra defining gel by @devacurl #ottawahairstylist #curlyhairstylist
