This hidden tasting menu is located inside a subway station 🚉🍷👀 This speakeasy is tucked away in the last place you would imagine spending your entire night, the subway station! Nōksu is a restaurant hidden within a Midtown Manhattan subway station. 🚉 Nōksu is a 14-seat tasting counter located within the 32nd Street entrance of Herald Square. Before it became Nōksu, it was a barber shop and newspaper stand at the entrance to the subway. You know you’re in the right place when you see the black door with a silver keypad. You gain access to the restaurant only using the code sent to you on the day of your reservation. ⚫️ Upon entering, you’ll be welcomed by a 14-seat counter at Nōksu, where the black and white interior draws inspiration from Korean ink-and-wash paintings. The name, meaning “of the earth” in Korean, embodies an ethos that permeates the space. 🧑🏻🍳 Chef Dae Kim, who has previously worked at Per Se and Silver Apricot, offers a 12-course menu focusing on seafood, game, and highlighting traditional Korean flavors. Winter menu highlights include the Surf Clam with Hen-egg Custard, Caviar, and Scallion, Jeju Island Red Mullet with Crawfish and Preserved Meyer Lemon, and the Squab with Smoked Jiang, Puffed Duck Foot, and Truffle Bao. This exhibit is made with garden soil, clay from Dia Beacon, hay, cinnamon, clove, water, fragrance, and more natural materials 🌱 For over a decade, Delcy Morelos has crafted immersive installations using earth, drawing inspiration from ancestral Andean and Amazonian cosmologies. For Dia Chelsea (@diaartfoundation), the artist has created two immersive, multisensory installations—Cielo terrenal (Earthly Heaven, 2023) and El abrazo (The Embrace, 2023), where surface and volume converge and collapse through monochromatic expanse and material accumulation. 🌱 Over the past thirty years, Morelos has worked across painting, sculpture, and installation, focusing on earth as her primary material for over a decade now. Morelos’s exhibit at Dia Chelsea, featuring “Cielo terrenal” and “El abrazo,” explores the profound significance of mud, aiming to connect audiences with the “intimate humidity of the earth.” 🌱 As part of this installation, Dia presents Soil Sessions, a series of interdisciplinary programs providing diverse perspectives on Morelos’s work, fostering engagement throughout the exhibition. The monthly programs include tours and events such as the making of sweetened “soil cookies”. 🌱 Visit now through July 20th, 2024.
