It’s been an *eventful* past 9 months. I just finished my winter build, and I’m very happy with the results, especially after coming out of two injuries mid-2023 that really set me back in my training. I’m choosing to look at that as God gave me an opportunity to practice patience 😅 In August I fractured a toe, recovery time 7 weeks. Within two weeks I tore both bicep tendons in the third and final race of the Obstacle Course Racing World Championships. I couldn’t lift my arms over my head for a month, couldn’t lift any upper body weight for two months, and spent the third month slowly re-incorporating movement patterns with very little weight. I atrophied a lot of upper body muscle and strength in that time. Injuries are ROUGH. They eventually happen to us all, in spite of careful and intentional training. This build was focused on regaining the lost muscle, and at the finish I’m currently holding more muscle mass than I had before the injuries and am moving more weight than I’ve ever lifted. Be patient with injuries, and build back smart with careful progressions. I’m going into a short pre-race season cut, and I’m excited to see what this re-built body is going to do in my first Spartan of the season come May 🏃🏻♂️💪🏼 #nerdgym #nerdgymsquad #nerdworkout #barbarian #spartanrace

Even after 9 years of regular gym use and 2 years as a personal trainer, going to a new gym still hits my social anxiety hard. I’m an introvert and I like familiar places and familiar faces. No matter how long or short youve been going to a gym, your social anxiety/gym anxiety is valid and seen. Take it one step at a time (quite literally begining with stepping out of your car). My best tips are to play a familiar pump-up song as you drive to the gym, and do a workout routine you’re familiar with.
