Following forwards and backwards ➡️ If your dog is looking at you, they can’t be lunging, a squirrel or reacting to another dog. But for some dogs, the standard heel position makes it difficult for them to fully commit to your eyes. I spend a lot of time teaching reactive, dogs, proper leash, walking, but I also spend time getting the dog to understand how to follow me in this position as well. At my dog training, seminars and virtual training, I explain the importance of this position, not just because it’s easier for your dog to give you iContact in this position, but also because it’s easier for us to correct / disrupt, as well as using your body for spatial pressure quickly. what I’m not telling you to do is walk down your neighborhood streets backwards, that’s a pretty easy way to get hit in the ass with the truck. But practicing this game in your cul-de-sac, in your driveway, or local park is very beneficial.
