Castle Tioram (Cheerum) sat on the tidal island of Eilean Tioram, where Loch Moidart and the River Shiel meet. Make your way down a 2 mile stretch of single-track road, arriving at a small woodland car park, situated beside a sandy beach. Follow the beach and you can't miss it. This was an important fortification for Clanranald and, as such, the Lordship of the Isles. One origin story puts the creation of Tioram down to Amie MicRuari, wife of John of Islay, Lord of the isles, suggesting a 14th-century creation. However, architectural examination puts the earliest part no later than the 13th century. As with all castles, though, it wasn't all completed in one phase. A little more tricky to reach than most castles, but this is definitely one to have in your top 10 castles in Scotland! #tartanviking #meninkilts #highlander #scotland #scottish #scotlandtiktok #tiktokscotland #visitscotland #scottishtiktok #scotlandtravel #travelscotland #scotlandadventures #bloodofmyblood #outlander #castle

How to wear the Great Kilt (féileadh-mór) I've been asked about this a few times recently, so thought I'd show you another wee tutorial that I put together whilst out camping on Innes Chonnel Island. For context, that night, I used the one half of my plaid to make a hammock and then used the other half as a blanket...it was pretty chilly and worked well, but not well enough. So, halfway through the night, I put on some extra clothes, and when the morning came around, I decided to put the kilt together for extra warmth, and it worked incredibly well! Thank you to Sam Retford for getting some of these clips for me. You have an incredible eye for a shot, which isn't surprising, to be honest 😅 What other Scottish adventures would you like to see us tackle? #tartanviking #meninkilts #highlander #scotland #scottish #scotlandtiktok #tiktokscotland #scottishtiktok #scotlandadventures #outlander #bloodofmyblood #scotlandtravel #travelscotland

On the 19th of August 1745, Bonnie Prince Charlie raised his standard at Glenfinnan. Lochiel arrived with 600 men, MacDonald of Keppoch 350, and 150 Clanranald supporters under MacDonald of Morar. Less than a year later, on the 16th of April 1746, Charlie and his men made their doomed last stand at Culloden against the Duke of Cumberland and his Redcoat army. Of the 1,300 men that fell that day, 1,250 of them were Jacobites. #tartanviking #meninkilts #highlander #scotland #scottish #scotlandtiktok #tiktokscotland #scottishtiktok #scotlandadventures #travelscotland #scotlandtravel #sassenach #outlander #bloodofmyblood #visitscotland

Have you ever been to Castle Menzies? (pronounced Mingis) A 16th-century castle that sits just round the corner from Aberfeldy and was the seat of the Chief of Clan Menzies for 500 years. If you're not sure what a "Clan" is, the word essentially means "chidren of", so if you were part of clan Menzies, you were the children of Menzies. Now, that's not to say you had the second name Menzies, as you may have just lived on their land, or were part of a sept family (like Murdochs are to Macphersons), but you owed loyatly to that Chief. And usually some form of tax too...often whisky 🥃 Be sure to save this post and add Castle Menzies to your list of castles to tour in Scotland! It even hosted Bonnie Prince Charlie and the Duke of Cumberland in the run-up to the Battle of Culloden in 1746. #tartanviking #highlander #meninkilts #scotland #visitscotland #scotlandtiktok #tiktokscotland #scottishtiktok #scotlandtravel #travelscotland #scotlandadventures #outlander #bloodofmyblood
