I FINALLY made it over to the Mithraeum! I’ve been trying to get here for a few years but just never had enough time on layovers. This is such a fantastic space and a fantasic way to allow visitors to learn & engage with an archaeological site. Someone had asked about ancient fabric and wouldn’t you know it, they had some on display for the current Roman Legion exhibit at the British Museum! Regina can normally be found at the Arbeia Roman Fort in South Shields, England and the famous writings from Vindolanda are located just a short drive inland along Hadrian’s Wall! The first of several highlights from the current Roman Legion exhibit at the British Museum! Even if you’re not a military history person, there’s so much here to enjoy and it’s presented in a fun, informative and thoughtful way. They have some excellent pieces on loan from other museums to tell a really comprehensive story about the reality of life in the Roman army. Bonus points if you spot @Tash the Archaeologist! 😁
