Here’s a vid of me fleshing a young bull moose hide last week. I noticed I have a lot of scraping vids but not many fleshing vids. Fleshing is exactly what it sounds like, taking the flesh off the hide. For this process I use a leg bone from a moose. It’s a very tedious and physically demanding job because you need to make sure you get every bit of flesh and fat off utilizing every strike. It's definitely a skill that is acquired over time, with lots of practice. Im constantly learning something new with every hide i do. I like showing these vids, because it puts how much work goes into my drums into perspective. Hours and hours of labour, over weeks to make beautiful hand crafted drums.
