SRK, the King of crying. And this is a particularly special form of crying. Why special? Because SRK portrays Om Prakash as a juvenile, an adolescent in a man’s body. The way he walks, reacts, observes, and emotes is akin to that of a 13-year old and younger. And I think that’s one of the reasons why O.P.— in stark contrast to O.K.—tucks at the heart strings so much. He’s relatable in that he reminds me of my teenage self. And the crying. He never cries like this again (no other role required it), like a hurt, lost child whose heart has been irreversibly broken and who can’t imagine that anyone feels a deeper pain that he does so in this very moment. And it’s believable because we know we’ve reacted this way probably at least once in our lifetime. And it’s those traits that make him so lovable and endearing. This tiny sequence alone informs us of Om’s significant character traits; He’s well-meaning, he’s fair, he is vulnerable, highly emotional, not too smart, naive, protective, has very little ego, and has a large, large heart.
