What has your dog taught you? Despite the enormous amounts of stress, heartache, and anxiety that come along with owning a reactive dog, there is so much beauty in this unique experience. Winnie has taught me far more invaluable lessons than just these five things, and I could not be more grateful to be on this journey of overcoming reactivity with her. It’s made me a more considerate person, a more knowledgeable owner and a better handler. It’s crazy to think that I was going through such enormous lows so often 2 years ago. I felt so defeated, overwhelmed and utterly hopeless. I would collapse into my bed and sob into my pillow at the end of a bad reactivity day. It’s been a long, long time since I’ve had a day like that and those nasty lingering emotions, so I guess what I want to say is this. To those that are going through some real low in your training with your dog, know that it’s temporary.
