Her name was Dori. Everyone called her Sunshine. She was only 14. She was already advocating for mental health as she too struggled with depression and anxiety. I told her often how proud I was of her. We talked a lot about the importance of speaking out about mental health struggles so others could understand. Her sweet soul just couldn’t handle the weight of it all and Monday evening she found peace in the arms of Jesus. All of her pain is gone now. I find myself arguing with God the last few days. Why did He spare me that night 2 years ago? I have lived my life. Why couldn’t He save her? She had so much life left to live and was aready making such an impact. If you’re reading this as your feet dangle off the edge. Just know it is not too late. You can change your mind. Peace is never as far as it seems. I can say all of this out of experience. I will spend the rest of my life fighting to stay and fighting for those of us who struggle to have a voice. You are loved. You are worthy of living a full life.
