Former President Donald Trump told his followers on Truth Social this morning that he has received a 'target letter' from the U.S. Department of Justice, indicating he is likely to be criminally indicted for his alleged role in attempting to deny the democratic results of his loss to Joe Biden in the November 2020 election. If so, it would be the third indictment Trump faces as he mounts another bid for the White House in 2024. Trump is already facing charges from the Manhattan DA stemming from alleged hush money payments he made to adult film star Stormy Daniels and an indictment from the DOJ over his alleged mishandling of secret and classified documents at Mar-a-Lago. He also remains under investigation by the Fulton County DA’s office in Georgia over his alleged attempts to overturn the results of the 2020 election in that state, too, with a potential indictment in that case likely to come as soon as September. Like the Mar-a-Lago case, this DOJ investigation is being overseen by Jack Smith, a special counsel appointed by Attorney General Merrick Garland late last year.
