Can you relate? - lesson 44 ADHD Life Lessons I wish someone told me after getting diagnosed, number 44 of 50 If you have ADHD people may often think you’re inconsiderate or narcicstic because of the way you interact with them. You often interrupt or don’t listen when someone is talking and even though you don’t do it on purpose, it often leads to insulting or scaring people off, leaving you isolated and confused as to what even happened. This is when I had to learn about how to increase the quality of my conversations. I realised that I often interrupt because my brain would otherwise forget and that this is okay at times. But, listening and making a person feel heard, is usually the most impactful thing and so now, I ask a lot more questions which helps keep my brain engaged. Also, for video calls, I always mute myself when someone else is talking, note down what they’re saying, and what my thoughts are. In-person, and listening and even though I still interrupt and forget it now happens a lot less which has greatly increased the quality of my conversations and relationships.
