On the 8th of August 1944, Joe Ekins, a shoemaker in civilian life, was a gunner in a British Sherman Firefly. Using the 17pdr gun of the Firefly, he knocked out three German Tiger tanks in roughly 12 minutes. Later that day he went on to knock out a Panzer IV before his own tank was knocked out. Ekins survived, and was then reassigned to another tank crew, as a radio operator of all things.
