Had an absolute BLAST last night with my gorgeous fiancé @Caitlin_brown going to our 1st Concert together, (as we weren’t able to catch any last year during our first summer together). Although outter bands of rain caused by the hurricane made for a very wet & muggy start to the night; within 10 minutes of @3 Doors Down going on, the rain subsided & it was an absolutely BEAUTIFUL night for an outdoot concert! It’s absolutely amazing how truly powerful music is, it transported me back in time last night, bringing up so many memories, from the first time I saw 3DD as a 15 year old High School Sophomore opening for CREED, with lead-man @Scott Stapp, at the Merriweather Post Pavilion in MD; to remembering all my married Marine Corps brothers, listening to “Here Without You” thinking of their wives’ while we were in Iraq for nearly all of 2005… Now I have a new & amazing memory to add to those; which is a wonderful first live music experience with the Love of My Life, & Beautiful Fiancé, Caitlin; I love you babe, thank you for making all of my experiences since knowing you, that much sweeter; you make life so worth living, & I am so very blessed & lucky to have such an amazing woman by my side through the rest of the time the Good Lord gives me here on earth! I’ll never take a single moment spent with you for granted because you truly saved me in life & love; you single-handedly squelched my biggest fear of never experiencing the type of amazing Love Story like that of my grandparents’; there’s nothing in this 🌎 that could ever compare to being IN LOVE with your BEST FRIEND, & I am so honored I get to know exactly what that’s like, with YOU! Looking back, its so hard for me to believe that a mere 7 years ago I was a struggling opiate addict, barely living day to day, fully immersed in my PTSD & addiction, controlled daily by a substance, with no direction, no joy, no happiness in my life; I was merely surviving, & never truly LIVING… But deciding to fight for me, for an uncertain future for which I only knew the alternative of was death; that was the best decision I ever made in this life; & then of course finding Alpha Bravo Canine & through them, being paired with Cooper 🐕‍🦺; truly CHANGED EVERYTHING! Two years ago today, March 19, 2022, I experienced the deepest, hardest & most difficult loss I’ve yet to feel in this life; the loss of my Best Friend, 2nd Mother, & the woman who taught me how to Love, my Grandmother, Jean Howard, or as I called her, “Mom-Mom Jean”… Two years has flown by in the blink of an eye, but the pain, grief, & sadness makes it feel far more fresh than 2 years removed should… That’s what grief does, it is all of the unexpressed LOVE we have left for those we lose in this life that mean a great deal to us… Far too often did I allow my addiction & issues/traumas obtained after serving in the USMC & in both Iraq as a Marine, & Afghanistan as a civilian, to get in the way & cause emotions & feelings like shame & embarrassment, & keep me from her & other family members… It robbed me of so much time with her, allowing myself to ISOLATE, & remain in my apartment like a loner when I had family there like her to support me… God how I wish I could have all that wasted time back with her; if there’s one thing you take away from this video, please don’t allow your traumas, issues or addictions to come between you & those who Love you!
