You want your teen to do what you asked when you asked without consideration for their developing brain. Constant nagging actually makes them more inclined to ignore you because you’re not engaging with them, you’re talking AT them.” Dad: “It makes sense. But what about chores that have a family consequence (empty dishwasher, take out trash)? Someone will have to do those. Does there need to be a “carrot / stick”?” Me: “Don’t use the carrot and stick because it circumvents their brain from building its own stimulus to act and reward system.
