drsanthoshjacob Death after chicken shawarma once again ? A 14 year old girl died of acute food poisoning and gastroenteritis after consuming grilled chicken, shawarma and chicken fried rice. The common stomach infections we get if we consume rotten or uncooked chicken are.. 1. Salmonella 2. Shigella 3. Clostridium perferingens 4. Staphylococcus 5. Campylobacter jejuni (forgotten to mention in video). In general if you have a good immunity and body weight ( adults ) it passes as a stomach infection in a couple of days depending on how much of the food you have Consumed. But if you are a child ( lower body weight) and have otherwise decreased immunity due to Pre existing conditions, the stomach infection to proceed to acute and severe dehydration,sepsis, shock and even death. This is what probably happened in this unfortunate situation. What can we do ? As consumers 1. Celebrate your events with home cooked food, nothing is Worth this sickness and death. 2. If you're in an area which has power cuts on a regular basis , remember the restaurants in that area have that too unless they have generators. So be cautious. 3. If the place looks dirty and unhygienic,and the taste of the off or smell is off - just run. 4. Remember the complications of food poisoning are more severe in children and immune compromised adults. So monitoring their vitals, pulse, breathing rate and blood pressure is a very good idea. 5.
