We all have to start somewhere but the point is you have to start. You must make up your mind and set the goal. For me my start was finally shadowing at an emergency clinic my freshman year of college. It was at that point that I set my goal to become a DVM and I haven’t looked back since. From that point on I’ve done it all, the grunt work of being a kennel technician, doing nothing but cleaning kennels and doing laundry all day to being a vet assistant (a glorified animal restrainer) to now finally a veterinary student. But we’re still not done. Navigating the second year of vet school has been brutal. I’m in class from 8-5 everyday and constantly beat down by nonstop exams and quizzes. This semester has made me question if this is really worth it. However this is where discipline has to kick in and i just need to grit my teeth and bear it. I know at the end of all of this it will be worth cause i still have my eyes on the prize. But if you are someone who wants to pursue veterinary medicine dont be afraid to start.
