I did Accutane when I was 20 years old. I had a few cystic acne spots, 3-4 at any given time, and I asked my dermatologist if I could do Accutane. He said sure, why not without much conversation around it. I did 7months of Accutane and during the course my skin was glass!!! Not one breakout. But once I stopped taking it, shortly there after, my acne came back worse than before and I had to deal with a whole host of new issues post-Accutane, like sensitivity, dryness. Accutane is right for some people, but for myself, I was looking at it like a quick fix. I didnt know why my skin was breaking out and instead of trying to figure it out and deal with it — I just jumped right to Accutane. This allowed me to skip having to learn about my skin and what was causing the breakouts, so of course it came back once the Accutane was done. And tbh I think this is why acne comes back for a lot of people who do Accutane… I wish my dermatologist at the time would have talked to me about good skincare practices, how to build a routine, how to know if an ingredient irritated my skin or not, and how to deal with breakouts (aside from topical and oral antibiotics) with ingredients like white willow bark or mandelic acid. *White Willow Bark — is the natural form of BHA/saliclyic acid. It’s gentler than BHA. In some studies BHA, has shown to cause more breakouts in people with sensitive skin, so if this is you, try white willow bark instead. *Mandelic Acid — one of the gentlest AHA acids, this one also has antimicrobial benefits to it making it great for acne prone skin. Accutane works for some, but I hear of it not working longterm for many, so just wanted to share my experience and what I’ve learned post Accutane in case it’s helpful for anyone else out there. #accutane #accutanejourney #acne #skincare #skincareadvice #beautytips
