Dogs come with a wide variety of coat types. Some have a single coat, some have a double coat. A double coat serves a purpose. These two layers protect and insulate a dog in cold weather. Newfoundlands have a water-resistant top coat that is long and coarse and an undercoat that is dense and soft. When you see snow sitting on the top of a dog’s coat like it is here, that means the coat is doing its thing. It’s not melting onto the skin, it’s resting on top and keeping the undercoat dry and warm.
