I was watching #saltburn earlier, and for some reason it reminded me of this gardening tip. No slugs or snails are harmed in this process. Slug and snail proof your seedlings! This weekend I’m sowing broad beans. Broad beans are one of the few veggies you can sow at this time of year. They are very tough and can tolerate colder conditions than other beans. I’m sowing Crimson-flowered broad beans which are a heritage / heirloom variety and should come true from seed. You can of course just sow broad beans from a packet of seeds. All seedlings are vulnerable from being eaten by slugs and snails. Placing salt around the tray will send slugs elsewhere and shouldn’t harm them as they will just go elsewhere. If you wish to avoid sticky tape because of the plastic you could just soak pots with water and sprinkle with salt which will set. However, I’m not sure this is so effective. Salt around the bottom of pots and trays will reduce slug damage but not 100%. Keep salt off your compost and avoid it coming into direct contact with the plants. #gardening #vegetablegardeningforbeginners #vegetablegardening #saltburn
