Joking, but note the technique for redirecting ⬇️ Developed by @oceanramsey — the hand placement is crucial, but even more so extending and locking the elbow to maintain space so even if they lift you out of the water you have the leverage point to push yourself away or back. Understanding shark behavior and developing skills to be able to adapt to is important for sharing the ocean with them peacefully. While you don’t necessarily need to directly train with sharks, developing your water skills, maneuverability, agility, and extending your awareness, especially if you were spearfishing can help you to avoid an adverse interaction. Sadly I have heard of people panicking when approached by a shark, and while I know the natural instinct for most would be to swimaway as fast as you can, that kind of reaction is actually counter productive. It’s better to face the shark, even swim at it and be ready to redirect it with fins (or stiff arming it if it’s a very large shark.) Then when it moves back, you move back towards your exit slowly and deliberately while looking around for another approach.
