The difference is a bribe is when they’re doing something bad and you bribe them to get them to stop. With a bribe,, you’re actually rewarding that bad behaviour. But an incentive is they get something they like when they do what they need to do. Having an incentive is not a bad thing to do. We all work for incentive. We work for a paycheck. There’s nothing wrong with working to get what you want. My kids learn from a very really little age, you gotta do what you need to do before you can do what you want to do. How to handle a toddler saying bad words? It’s tricky at that age, but I would just say no and redirect. So if they say it, then you say no, and then you can walk away, but then shortly after go back and start playing with them. Every time they say it, you say no and get up and walk away. My son behaves at home but at school he cries when he can’t complete a task. Does he cry at home when he can’t complete a task? What might be going on is that your expectations of him at home compared to at school are unmatched. For example, does he have chores and rules to follow at home? There could be an imbalance where when he goes to school, there are responsibilities and rules he has. You know, the more you give your kids chores and responsibilities and that before they even start school, the easier they’re gonna transition into school. That may not be it, but that’s one thing to look at. P.S. What should I do if I have to say something over and over like get dressed for bed or get dressed for kids four and seven? I wouldn’t repeat myself. I say something, then I take action or I have a consequence. First, I would create a system for them, like a bedtime routine. With my kids I had bedtime routines, morning routines, meal time routines. They all were systems in place. So I just say, okay, we’re gonna get ready for bed now and then just get ready and go. If you have to say something over and over again, it means that you’re most likely not consistent. Look into creating a little more structure with these times for your kids. My nearly 2 year old bites other children on the face, what to do? You need to watch your toddler like a hawk to protect other kids. If it happens at your house, I would say no, and I would say to the other kid, oh, here you go, you get to play with their favourite toy. Then, I would take his favourite toy and give it to the other child, and say, oh, that’s too bad who you get to play with that now. It’s the idea that you did something mean, now you have to do something nice for the other person. Remember with toddlers, it’s about consistency. As a parent, what things are important to correct or discipline versus just let go and ignore? You want to address everything, but it’s the approach that differs depending on what it is. So for example tantrums are not bad behavior. They’re just a loss of emotional control about not getting their own way. That’s why I ignore the tantrum itself. You’re right there with them, staying calm, but I wouldn’t discuss the tantrum before, during, or after. Same goes with attitude. It will organically take care of itself when you’re a leader. But if they’re doing something bad like an action, I never let that go. Here’s the thing, when you’re starting out with becoming a leader, you can’t address it all at once.
