The Sheats-Goldstein residence, designed by John Lautner c.1963 and remodelled with Lautner for James Goldstein shortly after 1972 to 1989. This private residence has surprises and delights around every (non-90-degree) corner. Some of my favourite architectural features in this home include retractable skylights and rectractable frameless glass walls for open-air dining under the stairs, 750 tiny skylights in the living area (designed to mimic the way sunlight falls through the leaves in a forest), underwater windows sharing a view from the pool into the (now) primary bedroom, and built-in poured concrete furniture throughout. There are many aspects of this home that blend the boundaries between indoor and outdoor: vines grow both inside the house & out, while furniture forms extend through the frameless glass walls to line the living room & the pool area, for example. The home was originally built with an ‘air curtain’ until the frameless glass was added in the 70s/80s. So much to explore and learn from this home. I can’t wait to share more of the story with you, thanks to Jimmy, Roberta & Kristin. #architecture #interiors #designtok #interiordesign #architecturetiktok #johnlautner #goldsteinresidence #lautner #midcenturymodern #spaceagedesign #modernismweek #sheatsgoldsteinresidence #architecturelovers #architecturetok #dreamhome #housetour
