Wonder what’s inside? 🤔✉️ I’m adding a kiln shed onto the side of our studio and discovered a hidden envelope tucked away behind the fascia board. My mind suddenly began racing with excitement the moment I saw it- imaginary scenarios rushing through my head. Could it be a secret stash of money? A collection of love letters? Ledgers of long ago misdoings? As it happens- it was none of those things. Inside a sealed enveloped tucked behind the fascia board of our pottery studio was a collection of pay stubs from one of the previous owners’ employees dating back to 2006. I stopped recording because I realized the person’s name, social security number, and mailing addresses were all over the place and I dont want to unwittingly expose someone’s private info. It makes sense I suppose; I know the previous owners ran a computer repair shop from the building that is now a pottery studio- and I imagine he had employees too. It’s funny that this space we occupy once held others who were trying to forge a path for themselves- employing folks and paying them a fair rate by the records too. In some ways not much has changed for this little building. Maybe a facelift, some new interior- and new faces. But end of the day- it’s been filled with folks who were trying to make their dreams work out- doing the best they could with what they had. It was a little let down at first, (secretly hoping for an extra $10k or something) but on reflection I suppose even this is a little treasured glimpse of history into the space we now occupy.
