Here’s the quick and dirty rundown of what a gyrocopter is. It’s different than a helicopter, even though both are rotorwing aircraft, and the main rotors spin freely during flight; that means the engine does not power them, unlike a helicopter. The only thing the engine powers is the pusher prop on the rear, other than when you prerotate the main rotor right before the takeoff roll. This bonkers design predates the helicopter, but it never saw mass production of larger versions.
