What a journey it has been…. But we’re no where near finished yet! Do I chop? Will that hurt me, absolutely! Will my knees be sore when I have to move her again, definitely. The amount of soil she’ll need 🫠 Give me all the positive vibes before this spring, I think it’s happening! #monsteradeliciosa #bigplants #plantpot

Thaumatophyllum bipinnatifidum is over 60 years old and I have no idea the last time she was repotted. In nature, these grow up the trunks of trees but in a home, a support of some kind is important as it matures. She grew all these years with no support and she eventually developed a thick and twisted trunk. The first step was repotting! Using a combo of indoor potting soil, orchid bark, and perlite, I found this lovely 24inch pot with drainage holes. For now, she luckily twisted herself into her pot. I’ll add a wood piece under that large stem to avoid it sitting in the soil and let her acclimate to her new home. She’ll be in front of my south facing window where she’ll get about 3-4 hours of bright light (approximately 500 FC when measuring with a light meter) and I’ll water when the soil is all mist completely dry. Welcoming a new thaumatophyllum bipinnatifidum into the collection (commonly known as a selloum or hope). I was contacted about a plant that had been donated to a center but they were unable to care for it. It is over 60 years old and clearly needs support and maintenance. This is my biggest plant project to date! Step one will be repotting and supporting her! Stay tuned to see how it goes and a big shoutout to my dad for being the best planty pickup copilot on this one! #thaumatophyllum #plantrescue #bigplants

Replying to @𝐉𝐮𝐝𝐲ꕥ Who needs the gym when you have plants 🪴 Last video, I shared the process of air layering and taking the top cutting from my monstera since it was getting too tall. So now during the repot, I incorporated her back in to create fuller plant. I used a cedar plank for support previously to train her to grow upwards and now I’m incorporating a trellis since she’s stable. Monsteras will need some kind of support as it continues to mature to help grow those larger fenestrated leaves.
