Death Valley National Park—one of the driest places on Earth—is currently home to a sprawling temporary lake after recent rainfall. 😳 Normally an arid salt flat, Badwater Basin is now submerged in nearly a foot of water (as of mid-February 2024), an extremely rare occurrence. This is not the first time a body of water—Lake Manly—has formed in Death Valley. During the last Ice Age, in fact, this endorheic basin was nearly 700 feet deep and up to 80 miles long. The temporary lake last materialized in 2005 and dried up a week later. Park rangers believe this current version will remain intact through April 2024. Located just four hours away from Los Angeles and five hours from San Diego, it’s an absolute must-visit in California! 📍Badwater Basin at Death Valley National Park, California 📷 @Katharina Worringer #VisitCalifornia #California #SoCal #DeathValley #NationalPark #BadwaterBasin #LakeManly #ancientlake #rareoccurence #bucketlist #mustvisit #travel #fyp
