Happy Birthday to “the drummer who sang,” Karen Carpenter! Today she would have been 74 years old. This song, “I Need to Be In Love,” was written by John Bettis and Richard Carpenter, and was said to be Karen’s favorite Carpenters song. It’s one of my favorites as well. Her performance is breathtaking. I am honored that my pages have grown so much in the past few years, undoubtedly because of people’s everlasting fascination with the Carpenters.
