I used to listen to this song at 19 when I homeless and starting no contact with my family. My heart wanted to give up on fighting and no longer be a part of this world BUT my mind kept pushing myself forward. I listened to this song crying everyday hoping that one day I could make something of myself and be happy despite my abuse. One day I slept in an apartment hidden stairwell and got down on my knees begging God to take my pain away. I struggled for a long time, but I will never have to live like that again. I didn’t “get over” what happened to me. I overcame it. Now I get to live my life full of peace because my younger self gave everything she could to get myself here.
