The iconic Goldstein residence... The Sheats-Goldstein property designed by John Lautner c.1963 and restored with Lautner & James Goldstein starting in the 70s. This 4500 sq ft residential property sits on over 4 acres of land, surrounded by lush tropical vegetation curated by Mr. Goldstein, with a nightclub, rooftop tennis court, art installation, 85 foot infinity pool, and so much more also on the property. Inside a Twin Palms, floating butterfly style residence designed by William Krisel and built by the Alexander Construction Company in 1957. It now has a Class 1 historic designation in Palm Springs - a great example of post and beam architecture, with the original carport and breezeway entry features intact. The current owner has a delightful collection of colourful art, vintage cars, and sculpture, plus the cutest dog named Brick. The Sheats-Goldstein residence, designed by John Lautner c.1963 and remodelled with Lautner for James Goldstein shortly after 1972 to 1989. This private residence has surprises and delights around every (non-90-degree) corner. Some of my favourite architectural features in this home include retractable skylights and rectractable frameless glass walls for open-air dining under the stairs, 750 tiny skylights in the living area (designed to mimic the way sunlight falls through the leaves in a forest), underwater windows sharing a view from the pool into the (now) primary bedroom, and built-in poured concrete furniture throughout. There are many aspects of this home that blend the boundaries between indoor and outdoor: vines grow both inside the house & out, while furniture forms extend through the frameless glass walls to line the living room & the pool area, for example. The home was originally built with an ‘air curtain’ until the frameless glass was added in the 70s/80s. So much to explore and learn from this home.
