As someone who’s been practicing over 11 years in the field, Black women Healthcare/Mental Health Providers are treated horribly. It usually starts during our academic journey, entering work spaces and professional environments, and today more than ever by the general public. We are often heavily criticized and people watch us like surveillance cameras. We have those that are opposite sex that ride our coat tails and only speak up when its beneficial to them. Our peers are somewhat untrustworthy. Its tough. We experience these difficult things all while holding spaces for our clients and taking care of our families. For me as a Black woman therapist, this is becoming unbearable and discouraging.. But because we are entering the fields in numbers, it gives me hope.
