Lucifer the cardiac alert dog just alerted to my 4th ever neurological episode (that we believe are seizures, not yet confirmed by EEG) by choosing to seek out and attempt to grab his bringsel that was hanging on the wall while I FaceTimed a friend about 1-2 minutes before I felt any symptoms. This is called a natural alert and it’s an amazing thing we’re so grateful for. Because he’s already trained to alert to my cardiac issues by grabbing his bringsel, he knows how to communicate to me that there’s something going wrong. When he reacts to these episodes, he goes all out. He gets vocal, grabs his bringsel, paw alerts as well, the whole 9 yards. He knows it’s a big deal. These alerts give me valuable time to react in order to get somewhere safe or take action to avoid the episode.
