Keratosis pilaris (“strawberry skin” or “chicken skin”) presents as tiny rough bumps on the back of the arms or upper thighs. It appears as red, scaly bumps but can look hyperpigmented on dark skin. It is caused by excess dry skin around the hair follicle. Using products containing exfoliating acids, like glycolic acid toner followed by ammonium lactate lotion (like Amlactin) 3-4x per week can help treat this condition.
