(Specifically referring to the pet community here on tiktok!) Before anyone asks, no, this is not about anyone in particular! Ive seen countless accounts who fit this description lol. While it definitely can be beneficial to post about certain situations and explain why its wrong, i feel that having the majority of your content surrounding it, is childish. It gives the community a bad look and causes beginners to be scared to share their setups or reach out for help. The amount of people ive talked to who are nervous to post/interact with other keepers for the fear of being attacked, is ridiculous. If you notice something off with someones husbandry, reach out to them. Ask why its like that (there may be a completely valid reason) Ask if they plan to change it (changes do not happen overnight. Many keepers are actively bettering their care) and if they dont know why its wrong, let them know over private messages. Do not jump to posting public videos about them… that will only cause drama and make that person go on the defense! Additionally, so many of these videos are filled with information taken completely out of context. In my opinion, the only time making an “exposing” video on someone that does more good than harm would be in the situation that you… 1. Reached out to them first. If they refused to listen or disregarded what you were saying, making a post to show others what not to do is acceptable. 2. Make sure you have reliable sources to back you. 3. Do NOT throw around the word “abuse” or “neglect”. These are heavy terms and should ONLY be used in certain situations 4. Be respectful. No need for insults or bashing them. Explain why its wrong, provide a source, and give examples on what is right. And 5. Make sure all the information you are stating about them is accurate. Do not take information from second hand sources about someone. This is how rumors start. Anywho, sorry for my little rant. Im just tired of seeing sooo many videos bashing others in the community. Most of us just want whats best for our pets and are open to kind advice. We are ALL learning. We ALL have improvements that can be made. We need to work on being more welcoming and respectful to one another. #reptile #snake #gecko #animal #bird #properanimalcare #leopardgecko #ballpython #fish
