I’m triggered by the phrase “working out” and by gyms. It’s something I’ve realized in the past few years as I’ve struggled with finding joy in movement again. I tortured myself at the gym and never felt good enough with how much weight I had lost or how my body looked. The main goal was always lose as much as I can but never about how I felt, if I even enjoyed the workout, or my health. It was simply about numbers, and body aesthetics and it was definitely not my healthiest time in my life. I’m definitely out of shape, my body has changed after having 2 kids, hormonal weight gain, and being too ashamed to work out or move my body because of judgement of others watching me try to exercise. It can be crippling. Last year I had Covid for the first time in August and it did a terrible number on my lungs and breathing. I was out of shape, but I’m now winded just doing laundry! And that’s not an exaggeration. I don’t feel good physically. I feel like a younger than a 41 year old in my mind, but my body not so much! And I’m not old, I’m young! My body may be soft and not as fit anymore, but I can still build strength, stamina, and improve my energy. Sometimes the hardest part is getting started. Last year I did yoga for the first time and I loved it! I did it again last week and it’s just a reminder I need to do more of what I love. For me. To feel better. To appreciate this body. It may be the biggest I’ve been in my adult life but I’m allowed to find joy in moving it to feel good. I want to appreciate it while I can, I’m not getting any younger.
