Should you be training abs? The answer should be simple, yet I consistently get asked this question to this day. Do you want more developed abs? If the answer is yes, then yes you should be training them. Just as you would do with any other muscle group you wanted to develop/grow. The abs are not an exception. Abs are not “made in the kitchen”. By this logic, literally every muscle group is made in the kitchen. Obviously the leaner you get, every muscle will become more defined. So you can get as lean as you want, but if you don’t have much core development there ain’t gonna be much to see. Genetics play a huge factor, as they do with everything else. Just like how some guys naturally have huge calves without ever actually training them, some guys will just naturally have better ab development & have no real need for training them directly.
