Hundreds of New York City police officers in riot gear moved into Columbia University overnight Tuesday, with at least 100 arrested at the university — and the City College of New York – amid escalating protests across the nation. In a letter authorizing the NYPD to enter the Columbia University campus and break up the protests, the school detailed the backstory on its recent talks with those in the encampments and the takeover Tuesday night of Hamilton Hall.
